I am looking to buy a new adventure helmet. Has any one has tried and tested a currently available helmet?

Whats your budget?

I have the el cheapo XTR dual sport. $150. I'm quite fond of it.

As per reply in your other thread...

I got an FFM to try that style and shape.

Sucks at night (distorted vision from weird visor shape or a face full of moths, take your pick)
Sucks in strong side winds (you have to fight to keep looking straight)
Noisey as shit (I usually wear earplugs or headphones, in that I pretty much don't bother with headphones because I can't hear em anyway).

Visor is handy though, way more useful than an internal sun visor when it comes to sunstrike imo.

I choose my 'sport/normal' style helmets for longer trips and just use it for fanging around locally. Doubt I'll get another.

Interesting. I don't often ride at night so can't comment on the vision.

To start with I found the peak hard going in the wind, took it off for a while but now it's been back on for ages I hardly notice it. As you say they are great for sheilding sun strike etc.

Don't find the XTR too loud, don't notice any wind noise much; I do have a loud pipe though. Aaand my bike won't do supersonic speeds.

I will buy another adventure helmet, but one designed to also take goggles.

LS2 MX456? or some number like that is the one you want then for that style and goggles. Few others around but they are a sharp price with good safety ratings as a rule. I was going to shell out for one then the FFM popped up so thought I'd play it safe in case I didn't like the shape etc.

And yeah, twilight is the worst, which is the hardest time to see anyway and it just makes it that much more hard work. I ride quite a bit at night though so might not be an issue for some.

FC Moto - Caberg or a Blauer....or a Nolan. I looked at one of these as well.

Shoei Hronet, but expensive....

These look great, integrated visor, flip top lid etc...
I have an Airoh, have also a Arai but these are old technology now.....

We have been here and thrashed this question, but it always comes back because we like to ask opinions. :) That't what the forum is meant to be about, but.....
Does depend. For short outings a simple MX helmet with good quality goggles is fine, right?

I also tried on a suomy adventure helmet, but no venting at all. My MX helmet is a suomy and has venting everywhere with fully removable liners for washing. The shoei and agv helmets were well vented, most of the lining comes out of my shoei. Not sure about agv

I have just bought the new "Caberg Tourmax Sonic", my first flip up Helmet, brilliant is all i can say. Has fold down sunvisor, pin lock, and comfortably light with plenty room for head sets inside, l tour on a FJR1300 and find this one of the best helmets l have purchased over a number of years. Tried on the "Givi Tour" Helmet but not up to the Caberg.

I've had an X-lite* X-551 for a while and am very happy with it. Noisy so tote your earplugs, but visor with pinlock offers good vision day and night. Internal sun visor is good and has the option to just drop down, and it stays put nicely like that, or semi-lock down. Peak could be bigger but seems to handle the airflow well. I'd get another.

* X-lite ~ Nolan AFAIK

Bought a Caberg TourMax....this morning. Had an eye on one of these for awhile as well as the Blauer.
FC-Moto all the way, cheap shipping and no duty as it was only $312 NZD! :)

For the one among us who might be to lazy to sign up to check shipping (it's my mate Dave, honest) what did they sting you for shipping? They have some Shark helmets on sale I see.....:blip:

Scam! Nigeria, esp Western Union or Wire transfer and the fact you have to buy loads = lots of money and no helmets to be seen.
None cheaper than FC-Moto I believe...

what did they sting you for shipping?

No sting involved, just $29 approx DHL
That price included the shipping. The helmet was cheaper.
Bought from them three of four times, even if you order a couple of helmets the price remains the same for the most part.

BTW, be heading through your way 9th Jan approx with the DL1000. Doing the Port Underwood road while I wait for the ferry...south to north.

What times the ferry? There is a ship in but it is usually my day off so I might be able to swing a beer or at the very least an oogle at the new machine =)

1900, but I am coming from CHC so will hit the Molesworth, then time permitting Port Underwood...(my old stomping ground RNZN)
You still got my number? Have to find somewhere in the North to crash for the night?

Ha....all of those words - 'Hit' 'Crash' perhaps I should be a little more careful with the choices....

It arrived by courier this morning. Well, one of them did.
I now have a Blauer Loft Helmet, it is great! :)
It comes with pinlock visor, two bags and it is very well made. Bloody good price too from fc-moto
$271 NZD! on sale..
Delivery was only 6 days! :wings:

The second helmet is the Caberg Tourmax Sonic. It is on the way and should be here Monday.
Great deal and I couldn't justify the $599 here when fc-moto has it for less than $324....

Both my Arai and Airoh are old now...they were overdue for replacement.
