3 years ago I bought PSIII

Played it about 20 hrs approx and watched about 20 bluerays.
Nieces come to stay for xmas.
Christmas Day
Put a game in machine. Played it before so has worked ok in the past.
My PSIII decides it needs go on the interweb and update something.
10 minutes later having not played game yet starts making noises and wont eject game then has a smoke.

I think it called Sony up and Sony said your 3 years old blow up on Xmas day and the owner of some xmas present games is going to need replace console.

Imagine you had bought Jonny 3 new games for xmas then his console blew up. You would be buying another console on boxing day.

WELL FUK YOU SONY. I bought a blue ray player (Samsung) and I am going to buy a XBOXONE instead.

My PS2 lasted about 3 years also a popped its cog even though I played it once every 2 or 3 weeks for a hour or 2.

I have a theory that Sony are behind the whole Nth Korea/The Interview movie thing. It would have to be a great bit of PR if it is true. All the theatres where it is playing are fully booked and the online/DVD sales will be huge. I also bet the actual movie will be very forgettable (ie crap) if not for all the hoopla.

So your console sits there collecting dust for years, then chokes and dies on said dust, and you blame Sony? If you used it then there'd be a lot less dust clogging the fans for sure!

Maybe just buy some board games? They can collect dust all year and still work primo.

Nah, be the static use of it gaining dust - probably got hot and ignited!

My son has trashed his PS3 day after day for over 3 years - still going well. Apart from today - apparently Sony are experiencing some PS network issues - more hacking is the word.

My PS2 still plays gran turismo sweet, and I use it as a dvd player.... PS2..... No need to upgrade, haven't even clocked this one yet

I should have bought the psIII bundle dust proof box edition?

I just think its funny a game I have already played offline wants to do upgrades to play it offline again. How does it even know upgrades exist if it wasn't connected to the interwebs. It didn't have a rj59 lead and it didn't have my wifi code.

If the unit tries to start then beeps and shuts down then you have the YLOD (yellow light of death, and yes it is a red light don't know why it is called yellow)
It is the thermal paste and connections that is on the heat sink on the graphics card. it is shit and it can happen at any time. the less space around it the quicker it happens.

Just google where to fix it (normal about $130).
You can try a fan force to see how much dust comes out.
turn the system off with the switch at the back of the console then press and hold the eject button then turn it back on. it will now go thought the fan check (runs up to full power)

And FYI if you get a Xbox all on line stuff is a monthly subscription.

Might be more like terminal destruction.
Made some cruching sounds. Disc wouldn't eject. Then burning smells and worse sounds.

Shouldn't be a dust issue. Its been in its box. That's why it doesn't get used often. I was to lazy to get it out unless I had to hire a blueray to see a film because the dvds of the movie were all out.

Seems buying a blueray / dvd player for $100 odd is a best option.
I have owned Assassins Creed III since it came out and I got to about 5% complete LOL.
I have Red Redemtion also but I tend to crash my horse a lot or lose it.

thanks to all the champions in the past running pirated cd s in their PS 1 console,Sony has gone in for some pretty clever ideas to ensure piracy is near on impossible in the PS2 3 and 4 editions

Effectively the console needs to go online to check that the game itself is not a fake copy, although there are a few ways around this apparently, but hardly worth the effort.

Dont blame Sony, blame all the cheap ass people getting games for free in the past

I still prefer to think it phoned home and Sony said" Time to blow your stack. Its xmas and he will buy a replacement."

Its a better story.

Makes me want to buy a dvd/ray player and forget games seeing as they arnt that important.

I liked the god games like Age of Empires but they don't seem to make them anymore anyway.

I should perhaps just get some pc games instead and maybe upgrade to a gaming pc.

Insert gaming pc life expectancy is only 3 years here............................

If I cant find a solution ill just lurk on KB talking about the riding I would do if I wasn't lazy.

PS. Still think Sony FUKed me in da bum.

I've grown out of games pretty much although I do have a crack at Age of Empires every couple of winters to fill in the long cold nights. Never had a games console apart from the Wii which Mrs Oakie bought as the quid pro quo for me buying my previous bike.

Sounds very terminal.
AC3 is probaby the worst of the lot so you haven't missed much.
RDR you can whistle for your horse. LOL and undead nightmare is way better, you can gete the horses from the horseman of the Apocalypse
.
Also I have heard that the Lizard mafia (hackers that have nothing better to do then just fuck shit up) hacked the PSN and XBOX networks and crashed the whole system for over two days.

Just go to the trouble shoot wizard and select an older version of windows to open with.
