Its that time of year again, I fly out at 10am tomorrow morning to Buenos Aires meeting Jaybo on the way:Punk:.

I'll be posting updates on Jaybo's ADVrider page when time allows, but info should also show up in the main dkar F5 thread in racing if your brave enough to dive in.

Enjoy the experience Ben, thanks for the call this morn. Jealous..... MUCH!
Try and sleep when you can mate, and don't forget to take plenty of Optrex, that South American dust is a killer on the eyes!

For those who aren't aware, Topo (Ben) is spannering for John Bouwknegt #101, an ex pat Kiwi living in Perth, WA.
They'll have service assistance from the X-Raid team, so that will help with spares, transport and emergency support on the route if required. The X-Raid team is also supporting the Team Suzuki Rally, so John and Ben will be in good hands.

I'm looking forward to following John, as well as Aussie Toby Price, who could potentially be a top 10 finisher.
Roll on 4th Jan!

Landed inBA last night, spent today chilling out and watching the mad traffic. Tomorrow we meet the rest of the xraid team and go pick up the bike from the port. Might have some pics then.

Jaybo has withdrawn from the Dakar apparently due to exhaustion. A really hard stage from all accounts. Awesome effort to accomplish what he has.

Sad, but it happens. Really hard to account for, too.

I worked the Camel Trophy in South America... errmmm... some years ago. We had people dropping from heat exhaustion. Not just competitors either - one of the TV crew nearly went over the edge of a ravine when he passed out.

Just entering something like the Dakar is a huge accomplishment. Kudos to the man for that. I sincerely hope he enjoyed the time he was riding.

Good thing they build those cages so well these days.

There's another wreck beside that. Natural hazard or track tampering....?

Oh shit!
Orsome crash video...

I'd like to see that from another angle, and what led up to it.
Pretty impressive though

Bye bye Hondas from top 5 standings after the marathon stage.
Barreda crashed, broke handlebar, then next day, had further mechanicals. As did Gonk, and Helder Rodrigues. Laia Sanz is now top placed Honda in 8th overall! That chick can ride with the best of the elite men - awesome.
AND Toby Price is now on the podium, 3rd overall in his first Dakar. Go aussie go!

Hang on, the live timings have gone to shit. Gonk has now finished stage, and is still showing 2nd in GC. Bugger, that puts Toby in 4th, and Laia in 9th.
