Bruce Anstey's successes at the Isle of Man TT have been recognised in the New Year's Honours List, with him being made a Member of the NZ Order of Merit.
Nice to see him get some recognition for his outstanding achievements.

I'm really chuffed for Bruce. Seriously. He's done great things.
Now... How long did it take for Carl Fogarty to get any sort of recognition? Only the most successful World Superbike rider, ever. And yet, most people in the UK seem to have never heard of him. He also held the lap record at the TT (for 7 years) and won the Ulster Grand Prix, so he was no circuit prima donna.
Maybe that's progress? I hope so! It's about time notable motorcyclists and racers got the recognition they deserve!

Not really, the book "Being There" by Hugh Anderson is currently available and might provide perspective. Really thrilled to see that Bruce's efforts have been acknowledged though, BIKE had Bruce as their rider of the year or similar once.
Spare a thought for Barry Briggs, Sportsman of the Year twice in Britain, sod all in NZ. Sadly that's what happens when you have rugby and cricket commentators instead of sports journalists.
Then again that's not just a kiwi thing, when Chaz Davies won Sportsman of the Year in Wales the shouts of "Who?" from the valleys must've been deafening.
And Carl Fogerty? He just won "I'm a celebrity get me out of here" all of Britain knows him now.

Overnight our time the Brits picked up on Bruce's award and there was a flurry of messages on Twitter expressing approval. He is not short of fans in the UK.

Well now, here's an interesting comment from The Herald's Chris Rattue in a column today entitled "Please Please, my Sporting Wishlist for 2015."
Bruce Anstey takes a call
The Isle of Man genius should be a household name, but media-shy hardly adequately describes the Wellington motorcycle road racer - a return text message acknowledgement would rank as a major victory.
What do you make of that, thrillseekers?

i wouldn't answer anyone from the herald either....very proper response IMO. media shy ? what can the NZ media do for him anyway? There will never be any sponsorship money coming from here to race in the UK. Far better to answer any UK media calls.
He probably thought he was being nominated for MNZ Overseas Member anyway....

Bollocks!
He doesn't play with a pointy-ball. That's his problem.
"Household name", wearing lipstick, makeup and with a handbag; but playing with a pointy-ball, STILL equals "famous in NZ". Sadly.
