Just a quick post seeing we have Zero tolerance, Road rage and online petition threads going on ATM.
My findings over covering pretty much 2200k of the north Island over Xmas.

Well I must say The zero tolerance program has had some benefits!

Flashing head Lights is back with a vengeance!! THANKS Zero Tolerance :)
I did about 2200 K's over Xmas and it must be said on the whole Cagers have been wonderful.
Warnings for camera vans and patrolling Radar cars. Saved me on a one one one situation heading for Whanganui on Xmas day.
Very often warning me well before the detector went off on the open road.

Pulling to the left to let you passed also bloody 9 outa 10!
Often when they where going quite fast enough along the straights but its the corners where I closed the gap.
They'd pull well to the left leaving me thinking shall I take the risk to put throttle on to pass and risk the revenue gatherers when they where already at 110+.
People doing 90k to the 110k drivers mostly all pulled left to give room for me to pass even on the left of double yellows etc.
Car after car one after the other! The odd plonker but overall most impressed.

Did Auck to Wanganui to Welly One up, then my Precious cargo (partner) arrived on the plane in Welly on the 29th and we did multiple trips to Upper Hutt, Papraparam, Otaki Forks.
Then Home via Taka's, Masterton, Napier to Waihi, back to Mount Maunganui, through the paras to Cambridge then Auckland.
Taking out as many of the rides/twisties/gorges in the NZ motor Cycle atlas (my son found the last new copy in Christchurch which I got for Xmas) as we could on the way :)

To be Honest 120k on the Bonnie feels like 150 was on the Sv even with the Hagon Piggy backs and front fork work so didn't really crack the 120 often even while passing.
Must be gettin old aye :) and the Bonnie doesnt quite have the punch two up with 3 weeks luggage for two people in tow either.
But that was the whole point of buying the bike in the first place something slower that feels faster, you could keep your licence on and could still get to the edge of the tyre.
Great Two up bike that still surprises a few on how she can get along through the twisties :)

We have a group ride over Forgotten hwy, to Whangamomana and up the that side of the Island on Waitangi weekend and then its Paeroa a fortnight later!
Fucking love this weather and the many miles to come over summer :)

Anyway I digress
Found the traffic to be mostly well behaved and sensible, no nutters, no agro, mostly helpful to keep you on your way.
Every one seemed to be biker friendly and clubbing together with flashing Lights making a huge come back, especially when they saw the bike.

Just got back last night so What say you on your Xmas travels?

Honestly, with the zero tolerance, I've sped up. If I'm going to be pulled over for doing 110, I might as well do 140 and just not stop. Haven't been behind any cards long enough to let them pull over for me.

Yep, it's funny how one well intended (if misguided) plan has the effect of more us & them attitude amongst road users. Still, when you look at the places and circumstances where folks still manage to prang below the limit...plenty of folks don't need to bust the limit at all for it to end in tears

Seem to have slipped into employing the tactic of riding up behind someone in there rear view mirror vision area, when there body language indicated they where aware of my presence, move and sit on there RH rear/side mirror area. Quite often 3 cars in a row would pull left to let me pass. Never did an illegal pass the whole 2200 K's. Hence the thread.

In saying that what you say is Very true and the miles upon miles of double yellows and constant message that everyone over 105 is in the wrong, even if u pull out on them ( like the ads) only seem to be fueling the complacency? It just seems all wrong?
Everyone's to scared to flick to 110k or even 120 to get safely passed a 80k er or a truck?
One they dont have the skills because they've never been there before and 2 they'd get *555'd or done by mr poopoo if they did. Fear rules, mostly generated by the constant ad campaigns.
Only one car got passed any slow guy or truck per passing lane as a general rule leaving the faster guys in the que pretty frustrated I'd guess.
Damn glad I was on a bike that's for sure. That said Generally these fast guys pulled left to let me passed quicker than the others.
Made it a mandatory rule to thank everyone who pulled over with a LH acknowledgment , while my right throttled and my ear listened hard for that first beep, only fare aye :)

Been reading an Article on the lowering of the drink drive limit to? Some of that reasoning seems to apply to the 104k thing as well?

Now I've always been a non drinker on the bike and only one in the car.
What was being said is that someone can now get done for 1 drink over the new limit and still be under the old limit essentially not DIC under the old law.
Which in turn is targeting the person who miscalculates one wine with their meal.

The drift of the article was, have some discretion don't slam the 1mg over or the 4k over??

Hit the REAL DRUNKS AND THE 160K GUYS FUCKEN HARD!! Was the drift of the article.

Seems to make sense to me? bit like 3 strikes I guess?
Someone with 5 previous DIC charges and still has drives where we need the hard hit to be.
Not ticketing the 1 wine or 1k over people.
Of coarse training and road skills are another question again but it seems we've created roads and rules for dumbies and that what we are getting.
People doing dumb things and Dying as a result?

To be honest I don't pretend to have the answer, just adapt to the new environment and get away with whats achievable. Hence the Bonnie purchase.
Don't we all???
Lets scrub out 1/2 the double yellows and let the Poopoo use discretion and give a good bollocking (is there such a thing as warning ticket these days?) to the 10k guys and hit the recidivists hard as.
Dunno ??
Your opinions?
