View Full Version : Man electrocuted at Northland campground

EJK
15th January 2015, 11:42
A man has died after being electrocuted as he tried to cut power to a noisy caravan, police say.

At about 12.30am yesterday, the man left his campsite, telling friends he was going to deal with the issue.

He was found dead by the occupant of the caravan at about 3am.

Poor bugger...
I wonder if it has or had current electrical certificate? Could the caravan owners be liable if it wasn't legally attached to shore power?
Well, the music got silenced but not in the fashion he was hoping for...

It's more satisfying & permanent to cut the wire.

Sad state of affairs tho' I know where he was coming from re the noisy neighbour aspect. I've felt like taking an axe to the occassional hifi unit.

Watt he should have done would be to try alternating between Talking to the owners nicely, and calling the council. Instead he went for the direct approach which ended up with a rather negative set of consequences

This is sounding more and more like an Austin Powers script!

I think it's a shame that a young bloke has died over something as comparatively trivial as this. If all the statements are to be believed in the news report (caravan of young people with loud music that they refused continually to turn down) then it's tragic. But what I find hard to reconcile is that as a "site safe" qualified guy who was a "lighting specialist" how he could have made such an enormous error?

I bought a cheap RCD a few years back just because I thought I should. Saved me a couple of years ago when I cut into the extension cord while trimming the hedge with electric clippers. Everything stopped working so I went tio the power source and found the RCD tripped. Went back to the clippers to find it's teeth all mixed up with the exposed cables. Quite a moment that was as I was at home by myself and I just pictured Mrs Oakie coming home to find me karked it by the hedge. Don't work without one now if I'm using something with a blade.

My brothers vacume cleaner stopped working the other day, so he pulled it apart and had a play around with it, decided it was fucked so was gonna dismantle it and put it in the wheelie bin. Cut through the powercord with a pair of sidecutters and got a big ass shock, yep, was still plugged in.
