China's Qianjiang Group has reportedly clinched a deal with Gruppo Merloni for the purchase of Benelli. The deal follows assurances from Qianjiang's management that Benelli scooters and motorcycles will continue to be built at its Pesaro factory in central Italy.

Earlier reports (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php?t=16046&highlight=BENELLI) claimed that the Russian owner sports car manufacturer TVR, Nikolai Smolenski, had acquired Benelli, and was aid to be planning for the car firm’s Blackpool factory to take over production. Possibly this was the stumbling block that led the company to seek other suitors.

Qianjiang is China's biggest motorcycle maker and the deal represents its first acquisition in Europe.

That would be Benerri then?

If they retain the current design team (if they don;t already have new jobs) they'll be fine. If they try to do it themselves it will be five years before the sell a single bike.
