Exposed front sprockets, my bikes front sprocket is open. And I have seen many track bikes like this. A track day scrutineer said he would let me through with it this time but not again.

Now my foot is now where near it while riding. What do you racer types put over it? Just some mesh?

You could read the MNZ rulebook, you may end up knowing more than said official, he may have it wrong? Then again the internet advice on KB will be first class! ;-)

well my front sprocket is exposed and the bike has been used in nzsbk competition no problem at all

Of course the advice on here is superb....The problem in this case is that afaik track days don't come under the MNZ rulebook so they can impose any restrictions they like...after some thought and much editing for the sake of politeness, "ass covering prick" comes to mind.
Wonder what he'd say if you fronted with a vintage Velocette ?

I did wonder why the race bikes didnt have them.

It is on the MNZ Web Site, but good luck navigating that puppy....

Many Race bikes don't have them, but 250 Production DO have them.

Grumph has it spot on.

They are pretty strict from what I hear. Have a mate that won't go back to one.

Most race/track bikes I see don't have front sprocket covers.

Front sproket doesn't need to be covered.

Neither do you have to tape lights (if plastic), remove luggage racks or wire calipers etc etc.

The purpose of the machine examination is to ensure the bike appears safe for use to best of the inspectors opinion. If a safety issue is observed you will be advised of corrective actions and be helped to achieve it.
