I went to the show last time and it was brilliant. Lots of immaculate bikes from the 70s and was able to have a pint afterwards.

Some of us struggle to see Jappers from the 70s as Classic Bikes ... to us older ones they were contemporary ... and new

Shit, then I realise that a Japper built in 1979 would be 36 years old this year .. or a bike built in 1970 would be 45 years old ... FUCK !!!)

Shit you probably remember when they used to chisel the wheels out of bedrock

All that means is you're getting on man! You must enjoy everyday you retain control of your bladder and bowels from here on in :niceone:

Thanks for the OP.

One of my mates has recently bougfht back the first bike he ever had, and he's now 59. It's a 70's Japper of some type. It's in good nick. I'll see if he knows about the show, and I'll be going myself.

Thanks again.

You're allowed to give me shit when you can BEAT ME ON THE ROAD .. long distance .. (Then I might admit that I'm getting old ... ) and the last bike I saw go past me was an R1 ...

I bet you old buggers are still wearing onions on your belts, right?

We don't just restore these old bikes to show them, we get them out on the road and wring their necks on a regular basis. Pictured at the Tai Tapu pub after a quick run down from Akaroa. It was great to be in a group of classic Kawasaki Z1, Z1A, H1 and H2's together on the move.

Mate - I wouldn't get 250 klicks on a tank .. maybe 235 .. but then I'd just be cruising at under the speed limit ..

Yeah that's at 90-100 for me too. I can squeeze 200 on the CBR with a bit of enthusiastic throttle control thrown in. Kinda annoying but then a bigger bike with longer range would be shit in other ways.

There wouldn't be any riders of a "certain age" who didn't at least get their leg over or through an old "Japper" in their teens. Mavericks have a big following here in Christchurch as well as Honda Cubs. Then up to Suzuki Wolfs or T20's or Yamaha YD and RD series bikes. Suzuki GT500's and the GT750 "Waterbus". Then the Mach I and Mach II arrived along with the CB750 Honda and later the Kawasaki Z series bikes. Great stuff, and they'll be on show down at the Woolston club just as they looked when they rolled off the production lines in Japan.

Yeah .. I'd have to admit that the first bike I really drooled over was a Suzuki Hustler (T20) ...

Then I met the bad boys - and went British (BSA and Trumpy ...)

The bike show is actually in The Woolston Bowling Pavillion behind The Workingman's Club. Entrance is off Compton street. If you go via Hargood St it's behind the Wollston Workingmans Club. It will be well signposted on the day.

Toured the SI 2 up on the 500/4, when the SI was like a different country :msn-wink:

Here's a link to the 2015 Classic Japanese Motorcycle Show recently held in Christchurch. I'm biased but from what I've seen on the Internet, for a bunch of amateurs, they have put on a world class show. The variety, quality and number of bikes is outstanding.

I was looking at the pictures going "I had one of those..."

Surely the hardest part of the restorations must be finding original pipes and mufflers, there can't have been many UJMs that didnt get a 4-into-1 slapped on very early in their lives. At least with the two strokes the oily spooge in the exhaust slowed down the rust a bit.

Fabulous pictures.
