View Full Version : GSX250 rear rim?

Hi

Just putting a GSX 250 rim on my bucket. It's all fitted, I now just need to chuck a tyre on it. I have now learnt that these were tubed tyres from the factory. I have a valve I was going to chuck on it which has a 15mm diameter just below the mushroom head part. I have been told that for a 15mm valve I need to drill a hole to 11.5mm. Can I just do this chuck the valve in and tyre on or is there anything more I need to do to convert it? It doesn't matter if it looses some pressure slowly as it's only being raced and will be adjusted each race day.

Cheers

do you still have the fxr frame and swingarm?

You mean tubeless from factory surely?

You can buy valves of all hole sizes from Patch Rubber down the driveway Marsden st.

I have used a front gsx250 rim which I just drilled the valve hole out to take a bolt in valve stem, because you'll find the standards won't seat properly as you'll find out. Works fine, doesn't lose any air.

I do but I think my mate wants it. Do you want it if he doesn't?

Apparently they had tubes in gsx250 tyres. The hole is currently 8.5 mm and I have struggled to find a valve to fit it.

So ditch the one I have and find one that bolts instead?

Yeah, any bike shop sell the valves. Ull find the thickness of the rim will not allow the standard rubber type to seal. Drill it out to suit the bolt in and you'll be sweet.

I've bought bolt up ones of that size > same as cap screw thread.

My 1980 GSX250 had tubed 18" skinny rims. Don't run tubeless on non tubeless rims. But I'd bet your 'apparently' is referencing the old GSX, not the Jap mkkt ones we got in the 90s.

Though the hole size is odd.

Just had a re-measure and the hole is 9mm.

Earlier posts, GSX rims were tubeless as far as I recall.

That's about right for the screw together job, stepped rubber seals.
From memory there are two sizes. But a bike shop should be able to sort is out for you.
