I picked up a Japanese Imported CBR1000RR. I soon realized it was restricted for the Japanese domestic market. It also was speed limited at 185kph.

I removed the bung from the left air intake below the filter.

Next i replaced the stacks with standard ones.

The part numbers are below.

The installed stacks

308234

Then I rewired the ECU. Not exactly sure how this little black box works. You remove 6 wires from the grey ECU plug, they go into the box and return back to the ECU plug.

Below is the finished job.

After a test ride the speed limit is removed and the bike appears to have more power.

I'm not sure if there is any baffles in the exhaust to remove.

Was it significantly cheap enough to be worth it?

Yeah I hear rumors of this guy down south who has spent the equivalent of a Southland house on a old TL........

Surely one of those urban myths whispered late at night over the rally camp fire.

I wasn't the one who imported it. I got her at a very good price.

It was worth it for me; not sure about the seller.

As I now understand it. The Japanese don't have any rules dictating restricting motorbikes, but manufactures do it voluntarily. I would suspect to appease the government and to prevent mandatory restrictions.

CBR1000RR's sold in the Japanese domestic market, are not only restricted to 185kph, but also 119hp.

It's made by RISE (motorcycle pro shop). Not sure how it works exactly. All I know is, it works!

I would think it's quite a popular add on accessory in Japan.

There are a couple of, what look like variable resistors. One says 7200~10000rpm, the other 10000~12000rpm. Not sure what will happen if I turn them.

:shit:You young fellas eh,surely more than enough when ridden on roads for which they were designed for,the best bits of road on such a bike you wont see anything like 185.

Since when?

Obviously their cars have been limited for a good 20 years and more but I've only heard of a handful of bikes limited to anything less than 299km/h.

Suzukis GS1200ss models were all Japanese dedicated models imported by Suzui NZ and had a 180km restriction from the factory - you'd hit 180 and it would start cutting out 2 plugs. A cheap diode replacement cured it and produced loads of goodness. All on a closed road under controlled conditions you understand.
