may not be the end, 20 years ago KTM were bankrupt, (or near to it) and they have been lead to be the market leader in offroad bikes,

not good tho, the spanish economy is not in great shape,

Yeah, I hope they can recover it. a few people saying KTM may buy them out, mostly for the trial bike range. but I hope they don't get brought out by the orange kraut's.

There's talk on the forums that's it's just political manoeuvring to get some working capital for r&d such is the Spanish economy and the accounting required. Look how many time Ducati were in receivership.

You only need to look at the hollywood injury performances to sum up some Europeans flair for the dramatic!

Sure doesnt look good, and now this thing in Greece for 300 billion will send deep shock waves through the hole European union, Gas Gas will be a spit in the bucket.

All brands will be put into one big name?

KTshercmbethusagas

White front mudguard, orange head light, red tank graphics, blue side covers, dark blue rear mudguard

I guess it would stop a lot of arguments

Scott's correct KTM was placed/bankrupt in 1993 the corporate bankers who had a majority share holding knew nothing about bikes, a bit like AMF and Harley in the 70's.
Stefan Pierer and Heinz Kinigadner along with Tomplof's family bought control back and they have gone from strength to strength. now they produce over 120,000 bikes a yr helped in no end by the Duke 125/200/390 and RC versions. But they make more profit on their clothing/ accessories lines.
Can GasGas come back? probably yes but they will always be a bit player like Beta, Sherco, etc.

Pete KTM has always made radiators going back to 1982 the RM250Z had KTM radiators , the old radiator plant in Mittahofen is were they build KTM's bicycles and have done so for years.

great comparison to Harley, the new KTM model since then is very much like the Harley model, with big profits coming from the P & A lines, its something that the japanese do not do that well, (with the exception of Yamaha with their GYTR line)

after the AMF debacle Harley was almost untouchable in the early 80's, and i know a man that turned down the distributorship for NZ around that time, about 15 years later i am pretty sure he regretted it,

also they have built a brand so strong that poeple are not just buying a dirtbike, they are buying a KTM, just like people buy a Harley and not just a road bike,

KTM and Harley are not the best bikes but they are extremely good marketers, you are buying the brand and marketing, their shit stinks just like everyone elses.

Just like Toni Bou in Trials, Montessa pay a lot of money to have their brand on the podium.

The fact is I am 48 years old and could not get within a bull's roar of riding a bike to its capability regardless of the brand, they all make good bike now days.

Very well put Scott KTM will sell you every thing for ur bike, clothing, dog bowls, car mats, toasters, espresso maker/cups , boot driers . Push bikes to train on with more bling/apparel .
Yamaha do have a similar set up with GYTR but you don't see %90 of it here. It is something the other manufacturers just don't do esp here.
This is partially why a lot hate KTM riders to flashy and shouty , they have grown a team culture at KTM , no doubt Husky will reap the flow on effects , this is the main reason Peirer bought control of Husky to give a choice to those who won't ride orange.
I do hope GasGas come through.

i think also what takes Harley and KTM further at the moment is that they treat the world as one market better than the Japs, where the Japanese Manufactuers treat Europe/America/Asia and Oceania totally seperatly though their distributors,

KTM and Harley have also since 08 had a much lower Euro/US $ since the GFC, which has helped them come down to close pricing to the Japanese, where 10 years ago they were much more expensive, if these go back to more historic levels, then it may change, but both those companies are now producing bikes in India, which will help in the future,
