Got a VFR and associated parts bike, great bike, and I'll be doing a 'stock' mod build to keep it touring oriented, so not like the cylonbros. Start with a lot of weight reduction, its a bit heavier than it should be imo. Ali subframe, fairing frame, etc etc. Will track down some decent scales too so I can track the weight losses...

Here's some pics. Was trying to check the compression on the parts bike and found the sprag clutch is a bit fucked, welded that up and tested, got 140 to 60 psi, so needs a rebuild on that one. At least it is a roller now, and taking up far less shed space.

Heaviest part of those is the motor. It also lends a lot of stiffness to the frame which is a bit limp anyway. You can chip away around the edges but if you get into the frame seriously it won't be happy...

That mass of exhaust looks like it could do with a diet.

You could save weight by buying one of Ed's batteries.

Or mount the battery lower in the frame which is what Im doing on my girls CBR to get the weight lower. Along with all the electrical do dads.

Nice bike, I shall watch with interest.

Yeh sure could, and there are a number of steel heat shield plates associated with that design too which could knock off another kg perhaps.

Save more by getting two of Liams :bleh:

Lose some weight fatty!

Full fluids weight just cracking 250kg. Well, there's certainly room for improvement anyway...

Also, battery is pretty fucked, so first kg saved will be from replacing that with an UB I think.

You got a source for motor rebuild kit?

What you need a wheel for? what is wrong with your one?

Motor rebuild kit??...no idea, I just bought a spare engine with half the k's

Rear wheel?...96 has a 5inch, 93 5.5...better range of tyre choices with the 5.5  (And they look better with the 8 spoke instead of 5 :msn-wink:)

I see, well I do have a spare '90 wheel (same as the 93 I'm pretty sure) but the trouble is it is holding up a whole bike's worth of other spare parts, so it would have to be a fairly good offer to get me to part with it...

And fair enough (There not that easy to find nowdays)

...I did managed to find one at bikes n bits - they want $220 inc postage (Which is a great price to be honest)

...gimmie a yell if your keen on shifting it mate (No rush...cos I is broke as fuck after buying our first home )

Yeh I remain stoked with the deal I got on mine.

That's about what I'd be looking for too tbh.

Don't think that will ever happen; and if you've just bought a house, just go all in and get it, what's another spadeful on your mountain of debt :woohoo:

Pretty sure you should polish my, oh, wait, never mind :bleh:

I found those rap lock surface conditioning pads from euromarc are the tits though, prepped hundreds of m of ali RHS for anodising in the last few days with em. Might even try doing the spare viffer frame black...

Scotchbrite flavor, I also got one of those corrugated wheels, which is probably good for contoured stuff, bit slower rate though. Spent about a grand with that bloke over the last few months I think, all I can say, is fuck doing it any other way!

3kg lighter. Damn these things are light and compact (milling cutter shown for size comparison).

Noticed my batt box has a metal front which is not so good for terminal placement when the new battery is less than half the height of the old...

Well I kind of have this plan to go down to just one blade, so one might become spare... Looking at how much of the current is drawn at stall, rather than cranking, seems like it would be ideally suited for a simple soft-start circuit to prevent the massive inrush current starters pull atm. But, I'm not sure how the sprag clutch (or in the VFR's case, roller ramp clutch) would deal with this, do they need a good kick to lock them to begin with, or is such a kick actually detrimental in the first place (certainly was at some point on the part's bike's one).

Just run a kick start like a real man bro. ;)
I found a battery the other day for Geoff, might order one this week

Finally got some time to work on this... Fabbed up an ali subframe; 1.5kg lighter, lost a few other small bits, trimmed the plastic along back edge to suit tail tidy.
