Hi folks, I picked up a GTR on saturday and was somewhat mislead about things. Water under the bridge. I'd liked to get things fixed (i'm loath to pass on the problem & anyway, it's nice to have two wheels again), however Scootling has said that there's no parts list for this make in NZ.

I'm not sure where to start. I'd need a mechanic who is willing to help get parts in and work on it.

It needs a front left brake + the battery keeps draining.. so an alternator? (currently I have to keep disconnecting the batt inbetween rides).
There's a couple of other minor things, ie petrol gage broken, but these things can be lived with.

I'd really appreciate pointers, thank you in advance.

edit: I'm in akl inner city.

Won't be the alternator if the battery is being drained while the bike is switched off. Maybe a sick battery which is not holding much of a charge but if it's fine if left disconnected I would suggest measuring the parasitic current when the bike is not running (key in the off position). You need to figure out what is draining the battery - an alarm perhaps? You can pull fuses to get an idea of which circuit the draw is coming from and trace it from there.

Most bike shops have mechanics & parts departments. For little scooters you could also try a small engine mechanic (lawn equipment). There rates are cheaper and these little motors aren't much different.
