Can't find this posted elsewhere on the site, but apologies if I missed it.

If you've seen the news story about the poor bugger in Christchurch who lost his house, budgies and bikes in the scrub fire, here's the link to the Givealittle page that's been set up to give him a helping hand: https://givealittle.co.nz/cause/supportbruce2015#

5 vintage Triumphs, one being a 69 bonnie he had just bought and the rest were to be his retirement fund/project he estimated them to be worth around 80k. Unfortunately only one of them was insured

1969 isn't vintage, pre 1930 is, $80K divided by 5 is $16K each. Few triumphs are worth as much as $16k far less a whole collection of projects so one wonders whether his claim is fraudulent, or just over valued for one's own ego.

One would hope that the bikes aren't beyond restoration, they may be cooked but not burnt to the ground.

Did he not have insurance?

They asked him that question last night, he said he was not sure because the house was for sale, translation: um no.

Thank christ they were only Nortons and not Chinese made GN250's. :( On a serious note, its pretty tragic to see any motorbikes burnt like that. If they were mine, I'd be gutted.

As I recall ... Vintage is considered to be ... 50 years old ...

I don't know him personally but we've moved in overlapping circles for years. I remember him as a Triumph man and what little I saw on the news looked Triumph...He's best known in ChCh as a speedway competitor, cars. TQ's and sprints. last time i saw him drive was a carburettored sprinter in which he gave the more exotic injected cars fits. A very decent bloke and a genuine trier.
Insurance...well as Ellipsis has said, it's ChCh...for those not here it's often been a choice between what you can afford and none...And if as has been said, the house was under offer and the insurance came up for renewal complete with the seemingly mandatory increase....How many of us would have paid up ?

I hope he does well out of the fund, it could have been any one of several guys i know - Eurodave for instance is just a few doors away.....

I would have thought - ah, wait, crap. How to screw up in four words.

Living in Christchurch has kind of taught most residents that up-to-date insurance is a bloody good idea, even if you know you are getting screwed over. If you can't afford the loss, it needs to be insured.

Having said that, he's been put in a rubbish position that I wouldn't wish on *almost* anyone.
