To those foolhardy fucktards that wish to cross the harbour bridge:
May I recommend that you refrain from doing so.
The winds are bloody wellingtonian - must be cos of that dirty white bastard who's joined us.
Small sportsbikes will get blown into the other lane if they don't resort to weird contorting movements like a downhill skier to keep it rubber side down.

Was going down the mway from Papakura into Mt Wellington in my mates cage. We abandoned trying to get across the bridge after the cage started aquaplaning and getting blown half across the lane the whole way along the motorway :/
It was pretty fricken bad. No wonder that dude binned the plane turning or something.

Just another day at the Rimataka office mate. There's a reason us Welly riders wear the sides of our tyres first. It's cos we're always riding on an angle to track against the wind.

Yup I figured that out too.. it's the only way to manage to keep filtering:2thumbsup and it's a bloody fun thing to do too.
And by the way - Speedmedic is a foolhardy fucktard who has just admitted he's a viagra junkie too.
Thanks for offering me a place in the ambo mate. I'll drive and you lie in the back, pop some viagra and look carefully with your glasses to see if it's working:lol:

pfft easy try driving a 800 kg jeep, dont got any weight to hold the tires down so just slide all over the place, plus it has crazy windage being designed similar to a brick

Yo, WINJATRON. The clearance is some formula like the average of the 3 highest tides in the last 100 years or some crap. We go brideswinging off there sometimes (right over that main span) and get 24 metre swings without touching the water.

LOL, fuck yea bro, was following a guy on a XJ up the hutt side, was bout 20 metres behind him and the wind picked him up and blew into the barrier, only doing 60odd kph bike was sort alright (rideable) and he was fine.
Dont know what all these akld folk are complaining about really, they dont know wind. And no one know wind like WT, being bikes or the girl.

saw a break in the weather an hour ago and went for a ride out thru gt south road ramarama, and then back thru runciman road, was good on the way, weather turned to crap on the way back, on top of a ridge dropping into a corner it got a bit hairy when the wind decided to push me over a bit further... ass puckered for a 1/4 of a second, got home with seconds to spare - Hail, i pity anyone who HAS to ride today..

Ratty's a 250, wind was blowing him about a bit yesterday and today.
Seen worse though. You just have to realise it's gonna happen and keep loose and relaxed, let the bike wander around in it's own lane. Almost quite enjoy it m'self, bit of a challenge.

was hailing this morning about 8.30ish...heard it pelting on the windows and woke up, lol. first thought "wish id covered the bike!" went outside and the area around the bike was wet, but the bike itself was dry. weird! [she gets parked under a carport]
as for wind...its been windy here for the past few days...interesting coming down and going up the hill where i live. but im used to it now. ride to and from work across the cobham bridge, where the wind whips in from ocean or off the river [speed limit 80k] rather interesting, but a challenge and good practise. i enjoy it, makes things different!

ps.. Im tired and have just done a hell night shift so red rep me all you like you gay homo's.
Grumpy bugger, aren't you??? What a night, tho eh? Mine consisted of a lot of being out in the pissing rain and strong winds perfecting my techniques for breaking into houses and climbing in through high windows to pick up nana's who had fallen on the floor and couldn't get up. Why do they all leave keys out for you, then barricade all the doors so you can't get in?

I wasn't advising anyone. The wind was hard enough to make me feel at risk. The warning signs on the Motorway were lit up saying: WARNING HIGH WINDS DRIVE WITH CAUTION.
Just giving others a heads-up.

Agreed. I think those high, slab sided, light Jappa vans are worse than a bike in cross winds. I've known a HiAce bodily shoved sideways by the wind on a wet road. Not just swerving, physically pushed directly sideways .
Cross winds are something that always frightens early riders (does anyone like the term "early rider" - it seems less derogatory than "newbie" , or "n00b" and such like ) but IMHO they feel more scarey than they really are. Only people I've ever heard of coming off cos of wind have actually jammed their brakes on when they got a fright and locked up a wheel. Relaxed arms , ride with the wind, and let it weave about a bit.

Well said Ixion, I've had the chance to experience some seriously strong winds on that bridge on my old 250 and my new precious (Suzuki Volusia 800 :2thumbsup ) and like you said, it's best to relax and take it easy. In the begining I used to shit myself, brake hard and panic, but I have since learnt to deal with it nicely.
And can everyone lay off JSG, he was just giving us a heads up.

i have been in gale force winds riding through Featherston and it can be very scary.
Best bet as said above is to relax and just ride sideways Kinda strange feeling tho going in a straight but riding like ya going round a hair pin at the track :)
Relax and go with it its heaps of fun oonce ya use to the feeling.

Might explain Speed Med's reply. By the way I would not call a Ambo Officer a junkie. Very bad luck that, especial if you ride motorbikes, you never know when you will need them. It's no fun for those guys when they have to peel our spatted shit of the road.

Don't really have much of a problem with it - just curious as to why any of the above was any of your business as you:
A) obviously didn't know my relationship between these people
B) you weren't affected by this thread directly in anyway -
C) Wasn't is soo bloody obvious that I was taking the piss?? Isn't this an informal place - not a court of law.......
And this isn't the first time either - you seemed to be rather vindictive towards me in Placidfemme's ride thread too. Where by the way knowing the name of someone available with a trailer may have been a help to one person who broke down.
Of late my hours on KB have been greatly reduced and I hate seeing and having to deal with stuff like this in the limited time I do have here.
