Registering a moped?

Hi everyone,

If I was to register a moped, 50cc, doesn't go over 50kph blah blah
What do I have to do exactly?

What if it is custom and isn't a particular brand, something I have hacked together to meet road-legal moped requirements? Does LTNZ have a category for it like "Other- Moped" rather than "Honda-P50" etc
Does it need an inspection?
Can't seem to find much info

This is the problem with home built.

As of 1 July 2011 your moped must be entry certified when first put on the road in New Zealand.

Idd say you need the frame and chasis number to have been in the system and carry on using the original model.
Otherwise your going to be a motorbike needing certified. (my interpretation only)

So I may need to buy a busted ass scoot and get the tags etc off it...

Seeing as its not going to need warrants maybe just live moped plates. Not exactly legit I would assume.
There is people on tardme searching for blown up mopeds and some even ask to buy the plates from wrecked ones(not exactly covert in their efforts).

I just wondered what I have to do if a friend and I go ahead with a project of ours.

Bascially mopeds are ugly, we want a bike looking one but meets the Moped rules of 50cc engine and not more than 50kph speed, but still looks like a bike. Something you can take to the shops down the road etc without breaking the law.

Suppose we have to start the build on a previously registered frame or something then.

Maybe this one. Needs a new plate but that's only 110 odd plus the cost of 6months rego.
