I read a sweet review of the CBR500 recently - looks like it would be a great bike around town and more than capable on the open road.

Yeah, the CBR500R is a very nice bike. Very capable indeed :)

I've heard good things about the 500s. The CB500F is still kinda on my list, although it would probably be not much of a step up from my bike (aside of 24 years younger technology lol)
