i might be ordering some leathers from euope (uk), they send here and its way cheaper that anywhere here (i think), even with the 45 pounds of shipping.
wondering if new zealand has a "import tax" on this stuff when it comes in?, i dont want to have to pay around 20% (guessing), because then it will just be too dare.

any help?

I'm fairly sure that if you're buying something new from the Uk to be sent here then you have to pay GST to customs when it comes in.

If you knew someone in the UK that could buy it and then post you the suit and the receipt separately then you could claim that you posted it back for easyness, thereby missing any GST payments.

so when you mean gst, do you mean the normal 12.5% on top of the good? or is it more?

If you do this then you'll end up paying VAT here which is more than GST in NZ. If your going to buy from the UK, make sure they take off VAT which they should do on an export order.

That's true, hadn't considered they'd knock off the 17.5% for VAT, so should effectively mean a saving of 5% of the list price if VAT is taken off and GST added on.

the site already has vat excluded :crybaby: , ild love to have 5% off, not 12.5 added.
What a bugger, it might end up costing too much. i might just buy some here even if it costs $50-$100 more, at least ild get to try it and ild have a local warrenty :msn-wink:

thakyou all

Fit is very important , Last set of Leathers I brought the shop got in two sizes for me to try on ( some nice Spyke gear) , if I'd brought the same over the internet I would have ended up on size too small for my "one pack". Would have cost extra to modify. The price worked out better than importing the gear and the shop gave me a discount as well without asking for one ( "Cheers Motomart !") . Personaly , I'd rather support the local shops than save a bit by importing.

If your going to buy from the UK, make sure they take off VAT which they should do on an export order. Now that's much rosier.

Customs are entitled to charge GST if that amounts to NZ$50 or more. That's when the LANDED cost is over NZ$400. Whether or not they do, or even if they add the cost of the freight before doing the calc, could be a bit of a gamble. Careful though, some items ARE subject to other tarrifs. eg 7% on batteries exceeding 24Ah unless they're manufactured in Australia, and in such case the GST is probably added the the tarrif as well!

any help?Hi Young One, to save you the trouble why not get in contact with this guy (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php?t=8989&highlight=leathers) and give him your order...apparently some of the best pricing available in NZ, and some of the members here have bought them and can testify to the quality!

Hope you get some soon from here or the UK!

Ps. that's a nice avatar pic of that guys bike you got there.

VAT in the UK = 17.5%

GST in NZ = 12.5%

Also, anything that is being sent out of the UK is VAT free, same as everything sent out of NZ is GST free. You then only pay the tax on it when it enters it's destination country.

Or am I missing something?

so 5% saving on tax, plus postage, plus insurance, unless they are valued at under NZ$400, i wouldn't be doing it, especially when motomail will do run out teknics for around $600 - odd

i live in tauranga, but reading through the kb forums the best thing (im guessing) is to come up to auckland for a week and find some discounted stuff, who needs the 2006 models anyway.

il have a look at those leathers from wildcat_lgf too.

thanks again

edit: do you know if wildcat will be doing another order soon?

You sent a faulty pair back to the UK, and the company is replacing then, aren't they. Hint hint.

Just ask the guy in the UK to write "replacement leathers", or "repaired leathers" on the paperwork. I never pay GST on goods I buy overseas by using this old chestnut.

Only if it's ordered from o/seas.
