We're set to go, it's pretty shit here in Tauranga too....Hopefully the weather sorts itself out, but it looks like they're going to lose their sunny streak this year.

edit: Judging by the actual full blown rain in Tauranga at 7:30am, I gotta say Metservice have dropped the ball pretty hard on today's forecast. I don't have a lot of hope for today's racing :(

All over, quick turn back, from their facebook page

Sorry folks, Battle of the Streets 2015 has been cancelled this year. It was a difficult decision to make but it's the right one. Rider safety must always come first.
If you have already purchased a ticket, please keep your wristbands whole for a full refund.
Send your tickets to us, (PO Box 121, Paeroa) along with your account details.
We thank you for your support

If I had not been running my bike in I was going to go. Kind of glad I didn't plan on it now.

The MetService rain radar shows a narrow band continually passing over the Paeroa area. Meanwhile, just up the road in Coromandel, it's been sunny and hot all day. Guess there are a lot of bikes doing their own races round the Loop

Popped into subway at paeroa on way back from golf with my son, they had over a thousand loafs on site for the punters today, so asked for a free one and I got both for free

I headed down on my own early this morning, didn't look too promising but if anything I was just going to enjoy the ride their and back at lest. Road was very wet in places but dry as I got towards the Kaiaua coast, got to Paeroa about 8.30am was talking to the guy at the Caltex service station about weather the race would go head or not, he had heard at that time they where going to make a decision at midday, I thought that was a bit late, but hang around outside.
I Heard them make the announcement about 9.30am. All in all I enjoyed the ride down and back so wasn't a wasted ride, not being in a group I could do my own thing, got a bit wet on the way back though.

I gather talking to the bit on the side chaps that wet hay bales are less air barrier like than dry ones, and that the 'track' would have leeched oil from the rain.

And superbikes round the kink on the front straight somewhere between 220 and 260. Fuck all moisture to upset that.

I had gone up to Waihi Beach yesterday so I went to Paeroa anyway, had some food and an L&P, chatted with some people and left again. Oh and got a t-shirt of the 'race that wasn't'. I'm sure it will be a collectors piece in about 50 years or so. ;)

Anyway, felt quite a bit sorry for the organisers, the helpers and also for the town's cafes etc.

We walked the track this morning, nearly arsed up several times. even if it had dried out it was still lined with hay bales soaking wet with water and that shit was slippery. Plus I wouldn't want to crash into one that now weighs 5times what it did when it was dry. While it was disappointing not being able to race I believe the decision was the right one, and im glad I wasnt shoveling piles of broken shit into the back of my truck.

Thank you for a comment from someone in the know! Must say I was disappointed to turn up and see the roads dry to find its cancelled but you guys know best so brave call but from your comments mean it was probably the right one.

My comisserations to the Paeroa people who I would imagine have their biggest days takings for the year on this 1 day.

I reckon that slight uphill right hander with the camber change at the top would have claimed a heap of riders-I stood on the camber in good grip bike boots and slid for about 2 meters.-You have to feel sorry for the Paeroa shops, but there is next year.

That hairpin would have claimed more than a few too. I fully understand why the PTB cancelled. I remember when they ran out of ambulances down there a few years ago and the meeting finished several races early.

I know a few competitors that were privately shitting their pants that they were going to run it in those conditions.

Didn't they realise they didn't actually have to race if they dont want to?

One competitor in three classes, 'a few' does not make.

Oh no, he didn't have a problem at all. He thought that given the conditions it would be a great idea to have one all in race, sidecars included, winner takes all the prize money.

Believe it or not, from what I've seen over the years, that doesn't occur to most people.
The big classic sidecar pile up at turn one at the Bazza at Hampton is proof of that.

Until he remembered I'd brought a set of bullbars.
