Sorry i have only noticed your thread on here, im relatively new to this forum.

I realize you are in nelson, but if you are still keen for a project, i have a 1989 xr600r in my possession of which is in need of restoration. It is currently dismantled, but is complete with all necessary parts. The oil pump seized and has heat score on the conrod and crank. The engine did not seize, but having been separated for several years the bore is in need of honing out. Head and piston head are sound. I took the engine to a motorcycle specialist in ashburton and they quoted me $1000 to be fully rebuilt with new bearings etc, i just wasnt prepared to spend the money.

The rest of the bike is sound.

If you are at all interested in it, you can have it for $500, that is all it cost me, if it is not your cup of tea i understand also.

I know a bloke with a early XL500 (80ish at a guess)thats been sitting in his shed for yonks,he had plans for it but nothings happened so will pop round in the weekend and ask him if hes willing to let it go,coming up to the off season so he may well.Pic of whats turning into a rather longer than planned XL story i have in the shed fwiw....Will post up here the result of my enquiries.
