Okay, he's just a suspect at this stage, and it was the public swimming pool, but... what's the deal with the legality on preventing this sort of filming. If you were to say, happen to have a slingshot with you, and were an above average shot.
My mum recently had a real estate agent fly one over her backyard, and then later come around to offer a free valuation based on the footage (Ashburton). Her hydroponic ventures are limited to pretty much lettuce and tomatoes, but she could have any old thing growing in there - surely you have a right to privacy in your own yard? Guess it's not illegal for someone to look over the fence though.
Definitely some new ground here, and any laws are a long way off catching up.

He was clever enough to pilot the drone in and out of the changing cubicles....:)
Now, that would take skills!

Park one over jk's house and you'll soon get a ruling you can take to the bank.

Fucking flying go-pros now.
Even if I was about to sell if a real estate agent did that to me I'd tell them to F-off.
You can't pick ya nose at the traffic lights anymore without the threat of some arse videoing it and popping it on the net.

Fuck the drones, the problem here is the bloody hot air balloons. Go outside first thing to get catfood for the self appointed bosses of the house in a state of lets say, partial dress...Get away from any cover and some prick hits the burners about 100ft above you....Look up and there's 20 odd bloody tourists laughing at you...
I really must make a decent shanghai - and keep a supply of 5/8in ball bearings handy....

100% click-bait.
I learned everything I know about journalism from the New Zealand media.
But I'm genuinely interested in the privacy issues created by drones and the general omni-presence of digital video recording devices.

Do you think my stealth submarine should be banned from the over 60's aqua jogging then?

I have attack drones ready to go at all times, and am prepared to release them.:devil2:

Definitely - over 60 and exercising often results in a brown cloaking device so you are unlikely to see anything and may well result in the hunt for brown October...

Fair enough!
Young people are getting older every day - but you knew that already didn't you!
Must admit I am getting surprised by how many people way younger than me are in the obituaries column these days! - Not nice! :( Oscar has booked me a space!

Don't start me on the variable standards applied to allowing intoxicated people into Christchurch Casino...if you're under 30, female, and in a short skirt you're perfect pervy arab fodder and in you come no matter how pissed you are.
The drone thing is going to get very interesting, I'm all for the idea of flying one over JK's house as there seem to be no rules at present, if things can get sorted soon for something low enough budget then tracking may soon be compulsory.

As usual the real story is far less sinister than speculation

Fair enough - tried to change the thread title, but I see that you can't after it's been posted.

When wuz was back in t uk I was told I couldn't take pics of my kids at a kids indoor playground (gym, wtfever). It's how they got around the problem... that and they used surveillance to monitor the kids.

So how does that help with some pervy git flying his drone in where the kiddies are playing? Rules for the punters is one thing, but it doesn't control the randoms with $1000 to spend and a big hard drive for their wank bank.

Used to have an operator doing that in Twizel back in the day. You'd be snoozing away on a Saturday morning wondering whether to poke the missus in the back with Mr Chubby or just go fishing instead when all of a sudden there's a noise like a hundred elephants farting just above your roof. Bloody Damian in his bloody hot air balloon floating over the back fence again!

Guttered there was no link to tourists in this case. Media could've made a story about confiscation of drone remote controls.

But speculation is so much more fun.
Another member here would have gone with the suspicion, formed a mob, lit the pitchforks and headed off to attack the person driving the drone.
Until all the facts are known, people should refrain from jumping to conclusions.
Then again, it's probably the only exercise they get...

It stops absolutely nothing... other than the act becomes illegal.

Putting my sensationalist thread title to one side, I think that:
1 - Being a parent doesn't preclude you from being a pervert
2 - Taking photos and videos using a drone while standing outside of the venue is NOT the same as standing around inside snapping a few pictures with your camera or phone
At the very least he should have told the school what he was doing, preferably he should have asked permission. I am careful when taking pictures of my kids that it's them in the photo as much as possible. If I'm standing right there people can also come and tell me if they have a problem with it.
Just like conversations on the internet are much ruder than in real life because of the lack of human interaction, I think that people viewing the world through a drone camera are much more likely to be rude/intrusive than if they were standing around with a hand-held unit.
I am sure this is only just the beginning of issues with remotely operated cameras. It's funny that the worry used to be the state spying on us, now it feels like we're all spying on one another.
