Has anybody fitted air horns to their sports bike?
Is fiting a cheap chinese compressor from supercheap likely to damage the fuel injection computer or anything else because of their shonky design.
Tell me if you've had any experience.
Cheers.

I had airhorns on my first road bike when I was young and living in town...they worked fine...make sure you mount them propally and use the reley....they were awesome for letting idiots in other vehicles know you were there after they cut you off...mount them straight off the battrey rather than another part of the wiring loom...and they'll be fine!

i run air horns on the tl - use the relay, wire it straight to the battery, and it won't make a diddly to the rest of the bike. i will work through the horn button (without the relay), but the current draw is a bit high, and it'll burn the switch out.

Try trademe... not sure if they have them on there any more but there were some motorcycle airhorns for sale on there for a while.

Exactly what I had in mind. I've installed most of the system - I'll post some pics later - but I had a naging thought I might blow something up due to the abrupt inductive current loading.
Any body else had any experience?
Cheers.

Not a sprotsbike (you spelled it wrong BTW), but I fitted the cheapo Supercheap ones to the BMW. No problems, just run them through a relay. I actually fitted a second button so I could still use the original horn for "polite" tootling, with the second button for "WTF ARE YOU F'ING DOING F YOU" tootling (air horns and original together) . But that doesn't affect things.
The relay will isolate the other electrics from them , so it shouldn't affect anything. Just remember to put a fuse in the main feed line.
I must say I was disappointed. They're loudish, but not the LOUD I was looking for . I wanted the sort of LOUD where you see blood oozing out of pedestrians ears who haapen to be within range.
But, YMMV.

How does the relay do this? It's just a switch

actually, it's a relay. the switch (horn button) activates the relay, and makes the contacts directly from the power source (battery) to the accessory (horn compressor). the ignition system "should" be protected from spiking - lights, horn, indicator, starter etc, so it should be safe to do it. i've had no problems with wiring up it like that, but i know fuck all really, and my bike will probably melt.

buy a TL/VTR/RSV etc and de-baffle it. on second thoughts, just get a TL. that'll fuck em.

Another question about this, how do those of you that have them get on with WOF?

Ture, but what the relay does, is it means that you can run the supply direct from the battery (throyugh a fuse) . And the battery is a big sink, big enough to soak up any spikes etc,. And the only part that shares circuit with other stuff is the relay coil supply, which is tiny current and not likely to generate anything at all.

happy enough with mine. Don't think there's any rule about them being too loud.

Yep, last weak-end I fitted some of those airhorns from Supercheap, they were only $36 and have a nice small compressor. No they don't make ears bleed but are a damn sight better than the stock Beemer warbler... which is surprising, this being a German bike I would have expected a horn that was the equivilant of, "SCHNELL, SCHNELL Get out ov mein vay cage-drivink schkum!! ;)

Odd . Mine are. And they definately dont warble. More **RAUS ** RAUS** HEPP HEPP. SCHWINE. One reason i was disappointed in the air horns, they were no louder (maybe not as loud) as the standard Fiamms. Different note though, and still extra sound.
Does yours have the two Fiamm horns as standard ?

No, it just had a single no-name job... Mines a US import, maybe they restrict horn loudness in the Rebpublik of Kalifornistan (like they do with everythig else)
