Returning to riding after a hiatus of some years and now residing on the Corromandel loop left me with no choice but to join the masses of riders passing our door each day, It seemed the only thing to do was plonk my self onto an RSV4. This in itself has been an eye opener in the fact that the current sports bikes certainly move out with some serious boogie. You just about cant ride at 50 KMS unless in first or its chain snatch central and safe riding on the open road comes second to keeping one eye on the speedo in case you drift a K over the limit.
What's the best radar in every ones eyes with out simply going for the top shelf units that say "they are the best".
Cheers for taking the time to read.

You wont need one if you are looking ahead, if you are that much over the posted limit and you get snapped, you deserve to get flogged.Motorcycle riders wonder why they have to pay a high rego:brick: Heres a thought, go do a track day and you wont have to worry about the popo chopping the fun short, and you wont have to have the weight on your shoulder of killing an innocent person on the public road when you fuck up.

TPX2 from Radar Direct. Only bike specific radar detector as far as I'm aware. Yes I've got one, works well in my view. Do a search on here and you'll find a few threads on this model. Various mounts available, either go to your local bike shop or try a RAM mounts solution, also available locally.

Oh c'mon now, some of us use a radar detector in a sensible fashion. My primary use for the detector is for when I pull out to overtake, swiftly and safely, sure as heck won't get away with silly cruising speeds nowadays.

I also reside on the Coromandel Loop and my Escort detector hardly ever gets used due to the lack of cops, mainly mufti camera vans! I have a screamer fitted rather than an earpiece or HARD visual syatem

A motorcycle detector has the advantage that it's waterproof. Then again all it takes to waterproof my Escort is a plastic bag and a rubber band - crude but effective.
As I understand it the TPX is more or less a permanent fixture to the bike, the Escort can be moved to the car in seconds. It's only held on to the bike by velcro so if I visit a cafe or whatever while on a ride I just take it off and put it in my pocket.
For an unbiased view on what's what, read this: http://www.radardetector.org/

The TPX clips into a holder on the bike, and it unclips in seconds. Not that I use it in the car much, it's only an XR6 Falcon, plus with the wife in the passenger seat...speeding is but a dream...

Best radar? My favourite was the old school Gold Eagle, but of the current lot, the Dual DSR is the best. In terms of lasers, the Kustom Signals one is best, but being phased out in favour of the Stalker.
That's the radars and lasers, of course.
However, if you are looking for a radar/laser detector, that's a different issue. I suggest that if you drive within the existing tolerance, you'll have no need for one. Ride with awareness, that's a good idea too. Don't rely on a gadget.
And that's a free tip.

I've got an Adaptiv TPX 2.0 with visual alert on a 'TechMount Control Mount' on my bike and a Valentine 1 in the car.
Both seem to work well.
If you're keen on a TPX, send me a PM, I can get Brand New for $460 with Visual Amount and wiring loom... You'll just need a mount, but theres enough of them around on 'The Google'. Piece of piss to install too :msn-wink:
Otherwise, there is a dude advertising Waterproof plastic covers for the V1 on TradeMe... You'd just need to wire it up yourself :)

Yes - a fool with a tool is still a fool.
That said, there is the odd P.O. that is a fool as well and doesn't understand the concept of discretion. There is a time and a place, and having a detector helps one identify whether it's the right time...
Anyone know of a radar detector that has a remote mount (say, tucked away in the front fairing) and then a lead to something like a hidden away warning LEd on the dash, or a screamer in the fairing?

I have a mount I don't use and have no desire to use. Heavy duty chrome thing.
Guy who sold me the bike said it was a "tech deck" I think he said from RAM.
if anyone wants to buy it let me know and I will post pics.
Otherwise I will modify it to he a camera mount. Save me from being a dickhead with a camera mount.

Yep, they go on "sale" from time to time on Torpedo7.
They are 399.99 right now and go up to 499.99 occasionally.
They come with the wiring harness and visual alert LED.
They used to have the bluetooth wireless helmet-mounted ear-piece thingys for 95 but i didnt see them just now.
As for mounts, a bunch of Gopro mounts and a smackerel of creativity saves $$$ and makes for easier portability.
All that being said, if you have to be in first gear to stick to the limit, Torpedo7 sell a wide range of pushbikes too. ;)

Get a Beltronics STI. They are pricey, but can be bought for around $800.00 from Repco sometimes.
If mine goes off. 99% chance there is a cop around. Guaranteed. No false alarms ever.
