not the easiest thing, did it at the brass monkey, it was so bad they closed the road...after we went thru of course.
Just about froze to the bike....bit of a problem when I had to stop, almost couldn't get my leg out, just as well my pillion did! or :thud:

I haven't seen snow since London 1997 and if it did snow here in Auckland I'd still have to take the bike as I have no other way of getting to work.

I ride in the snow too. I had the same question.
Riding in snow is OK, not so good when snowing heavy cause the big flakes stick to your eye lashes and you just can't see. Heavy snow at night is a real bummer because you only see a great white sheet reflecting up front. It's just as bad for drivers in cages etc too. Bikes can get tricky for traction if you don't know where to put yourself. Type of bike makes a big difference in snow. Snow certainly narrows your options. Can be fun. Cheers John.

 naaah just having trouble detaching my appendages from the warmth of the bike...they didn't wanna move... lucky it was a cruiser so as we just about hit the mud/snow my pillion and i managed to get our legs out and stop the resulting embarrassment that could have ensued.

a LOT of other people were not so lucky or skilled :2thumbsup

What this man said. But snow packs up in front of the front wheel and makes it hard to steer. It sticks to the visor and reflects the light at night. Not recommended but when you got to get breakfast in Taupo and you live in Napier, you got to just do it.

I'm a Northern Poofer and proud of it:moon:

Don't get to see snow much (if at all) and black ice is something I hope never to find. Fuck I hope there's no ice on the GC. I can haddle most other riding conditions but that's one that really worries me. Will deal to it when and if it happens, but I aren't looking for it.

Of course riding on spam gives even fewer choices than snow.

Yes the ice is by far the worst. I went to Taupo in the winter last year on the bike and when the snow wasn't on the road it was frozen ice. It is the only time I let some cars go passed cos they were so close after the summit kiosk if I came off they would have run me over. Frozen solid it was. I passed them across the plains again but it was hard to stay on the road because the ice followed the dips in the road and the bike followed the low spots. No choice but what a ride. I came back with another bike and when ever we went passed a shady spot on the road the bike hit the rev limiter cos anything not in the sun was still frozen. I was told it was -6 deg C across the plains at 8 in the morning. That's the time I was on the road. That was the only time I have worn and appreciated my silk balaclava. It was great. I had a grade 3 blizzard waist coat on and shit loads of Polly prop. The hands suffered with the cold but everything else was fine.
