When I were a lad in Upper Hutt it seemed every man and his dog had one of those ('cept for the Sinn Fein of course)

When I were a lad, my sister's boyfriend gave me a lift on the back of one of those. Midday on a Saturday, and he was having another attempt to crack 100mph down our road, which was a mile long.:eek5:
He managed about 95, indicated.
A few weeks later, my mate gave me a lift home on the back of his brother's Kawasaki 900, and managed over 100 easily, going uphill.
Those T500s had such a looooong seat; you could fit three on it no trouble.

My second bike was a '72 T500. Used two sets of plugs. Champion L82 for around town and L78 for the open road as the 82's were too hot. Top speed indicated was 112mph in 4th and 105 in 5th which was an overdrive. Peak power 45hp at 5500rpm, redline 6500.

Definitely not typical. To get mine down to 33mpg I had to be doing 100mph!

They were very economical compared to the mach 3....9 mpg around town, 12 under racing conditions...
