View Full Version : Removing speed restrictors

I recently purchased a 1988 NC23 CBR400RR. It starts limiting at 190kph. It's pretty annoying when there's still quite a bit of revs to play with.
I have read on other forums online that you use a resistor to connect 2 wires from the CDI and remove a plug from the speedo and that seems to be the most common way to remove the restriction.
My problem is not how to do this, the question I have is that if I do this mod, does anyone know if the speedo will still work?

The speedo will work.
You can measure the resistance of the speed cut circuit, or the voltage and just keep that signal going to the CDI unit.
Unplugging the unit in the speedo will not de-restrict it, it will have a very low rev limit in every gear
I would take the speedo off, take it apart and take the blade off the back that runs through the hall effect sensor. Piss easy, no wiring fuckery

Will taking the disc out affect the reading on the speedo?

Shouldn't do. If you're worried about it though, use a multimeter to find the signal wire and see what voltage is going to the CDI unit and just keep it doing that
With Kawasakis you generally slam a resistor inline on the pink cdi wire to earth

I removed the restrictor from my nc30. Just disassembled the cluster, and pulled the whole restrictor out and plugged it back into its connection outside of the housing. Then wrapped it in plastic and tape to keep it dry, and it just sits in behind my dash. It reacts to the speedo working, it does not affect the functionality of the speedo in any way.
