I passed 5 of them the other day around whitford auckland and gave a friendly wave. They ignored me so just wondering if other riders do. I guess riding is their day job not fun so different frame of mind.

View from the other side of the fence.

Some wave to me in a friendly manner, some wave just the two fingers.

It's amazing how insular some cops have become. Some don't feel like part of the motorcycle community, seeing the motorcycle community as the opposition.

I tend to be the other way around, as a motorcyclist who happens to be a Popo, rather than a Popo who happens to ride a bike. It's a subtle difference, but significant.

Wave Dunkin Donuts vouchers next time, they'll wave back.

Just be aware if they wave frantically at you without prompting you likely have bits falling off.

I like to wave too the local BIKE popo:D...HI RASTUSCAT!:wavey:
(and smidsy & Fireball :D...I would wave to you as well scummy...if they ever wise up and give you a popo harley!:niceone:)

The ChCh crew are always nice and send a happy wave back:yes: (cos they are like us...bike lovers!, who happen to be popo)
http://www.outlawvern.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/still_mahoney.jpg

But popo cars!....NOPE, not any more & never again! (Used to nod/wave to them on occassion)
But have usually had the wave returned with a dangerous U-Turn, speeding & lights on popo car up ma arse (Or rapidily pulling up next to ya) and an angry young popo usually saying "Whats your problem!!...why did you wave?...where have you been?, where are you going?"...

...its what happens when you lower the IQ entry bar and hire young tattooed up thugs!, they simply don't understand "friendly" or "polite", there just looking for the next head to crack or reason to "flex there powers" :tugger:(And lets face it, there just to damn stupid to ever last more than a week riding a motorcycle!(Uturns dont have the required "effect", hence, simply no understanding towards bikes at all!)

...in short, I only ever wave to bike popo:yes: (And if they don't wave back...Im pritty sure you can pull THEM over and issue a KB ticket for being a rude biker a not reciprocating:confused:...I may be wrong, but try it!:D...and let us all know what happens )

We had plod come and give us a big pep talk prior to one of Maha's Muriwai to Mangawhai rides. If I remember we were followed from BP Silverdale to Hooters Park in Albany. Then plod parked at the top of the road. One of our members who is no longer and member here went up and invited him to come have a chat to us.

He did.

Later in the day we passed him in the Dome Valley, he waved to us  We got left alone the entire ride :sunny:

Manners. Always time for manners.

When I was still involved in AWNMR / NASS I pulled up to a gassie and a car unit started getting the full check sheet of what can we possibly ticket this guy for while I was trying to fill up.
So I changed topic and invited the guy to come to see what we were up to and to see for himself that no a Hayabusa does not automatically mean speeding. He was definitely impressed with the demonstrations for low speed turning on the thread the laces exercise. He declined to attempt it.
He came along.
He sent his boss along.
They gave me some vests to give away.
They tried to organise some instructors to come and have a look but they kept having to pull out last minute for several months.
Next 2 years he have me a cheery wave as I went past.

I nodded at one who went by yesterday - Easter Monday while I was pootlin' along into Feilding with wife on back. He did a u-turn and issued me a ticket for doing 99 in an 80 reduced speed zone. Was a 100 zone last time. My bad. My last plod nod.

Likely thought you were doing a speed check rather than nod.

Always a wave but never get one back. I just nod now and usually get that returned.

Actually I acknowledge anyone who rides a bike (whatever size) for a living. Lucky bastards ... oh, and my daughter who does her Queenstown postie round on her modified scooter named 'Lord Tyrion'.

That's pretty shitty..

Isn't it obvious you were trying to keep to what you thought was a 100 speed zone? Sure, if you were going 110 then it would be obvious that it was your intention to speed, but being caught doing 99 in what used to be a 100 zone shows you are trying to obey the rules, albeit without knowing it was a reduced speed zone.

20 over aint cheap either....

$120 and 20 demerits. Cop said he thought I should get off if I write in and plead as I did to his face. I went thru a patch with the 80k temp sign - I saw it - it also said "Revised Intersection layout ahead". I slowed to 80 and went past the intersection and carried on 50 metres and assumed I was out of the reduced zone. I could see the old and expected 80kph sign in the distance 500 metres away and sped up. They needed a second sign AFTER the intersection to reinforce the restriction continued...else you can assume the restriction related to the intersection and the build up to it. He agreed but declined to waive the ticket as it was zero tolerance weekend. Told me that once his radar locked me at 99 -he has to account for that record to his chief Nazi.

Told me that once his radar locked me at 99 -he has to account for that record to his chief Nazi.

That would require his radar keeping a log of all speeds it records as well as the limit at the time. Which seems unlikely.

I had a cop wave to me on Sunday after I slowed down from 125ish when I saw him.

For me it's habit to wave at a fellow biker, when in Welly there was only one bike cop who wouldn't wave or nod back. Not sure about Auckland as yet, seems 50/50 up here on getting a response.

Doesn't worry me either way, after all most Harley riders don't wave back at me on my rice rocket sporty...so I'll live with it.

Most likely a KB wave to the average popo or HD rider looks like you have sports bike rider wrist cramp.

Fuck E'm, if they can't be bothered waving back without turning it into a bust, they don't deserve to be riding anything, let a lone a motorcycle.
I acknowledge all riders ( Cep't scooter riders, they don't ride, , they hang on our coat tails)
Course, I don't often get a wave back from a bike popo, most often a quick look in their rear view to see if there's a potential U turn problem looming. Used to continue on at same sped, these days I up the tempo a bit and wait. Most often I don't get a flashing light in my rear view, but I used too, alot.
Average bike, average speed, these days it seems any popo, thinks it's a fair cop.
It ain't and I'm more inclined to turn throttle than wait to see what happens next, I've been made a criminal, I feel.
Just my take on the way it is out there these days.

Once upon a time, many years ago - I was riding Scoot through Penrose on the motorway, gave a wave to the motorcycle cop in the other direction. He took offence and ended up chasing me all the way to South Auckland, along with some of his mates. It all worked out okay; but I'd sooner be nice to a latte sipping homo in ponsonby than wave at another asshole cop.

I often get a short flash of the disco's (often with the "naughty naughty" wiggle if the finger) and we both continue on our way ...

I've found ... neither admit (or deny) any infringement speeds/actions ... talk to plod with politeness ... as if they are human ... (they enjoy the novelty) ... no ranting (they enjoy the novelty)

And remove the helmet ) so THEY can see YOU are human. Look them in the eye.

You may still be "Issued" .... but it usually wont be as severe if you choose "Alternative" actions ...

That's how it works in Paradise ... BUT ... Auckland is a long way away ... (thank fuck)

I was on my way to a fibre node - so I was just pootling along (@ 150 ish). He told me that he had to sit on warp 9 to catch me, and lucky for me he was an okay guy because when the rest of the keystone cops turned up in cars, he told them no drama, I wasn't running.

There have been a few other times where, for some unaccountable reason, the donut eaters have decided not to catch up.

Depends on the plod. I got picked up for about 15ish over, on a long weekend. Cop wrote it down to 10 over to save me some $$$/demerits, which I was impressed with. Less impressed however when they started going on about a school being up the road (it's the holidays love) and then further less impressed when they started mumbling about my 650's cc rating, despite having held my (full) licence in their hands for the two minutes prior.

Still, whether they're competent or not, always treat em like just another human being, just doing their job.

I always show extra caution and if necessary slow down near schools. Even if not speeding. Even on school holidays or at night.

In holidays they are often still meeting places or play places. Especially primaries with playgrounds.

At night, especially on the weekend it pays to be wary of people drinking on school grounds.

Don't know about cops in NZ now but the few I knew in the UK were bikers first and cops second. They only did the job because it allowed them to ride.

Asked a cop here in Singapore what he rode in his spare time and he looked at me as if I was mad. Definitely just a job to the guys here.

And I don't wave to anyone, not that sort of culture here. For the majority a bike is just a cheap(ish) form of transport.
