Heya KBers, greetings from El Bolson in Argentina, we are 5 weeks from returning home and our oil feed line got holed by a small stone with bad consequences.
We are looking at a 690 or similar to replace our SE, Maya when back in NZ, talking with mate tonight in Wanaka we spotted this on TM.

So, does anyone know this guy?. does anyone know this bike?, could anyone in Whangarei take a look at it if it is worth looking at?
Need a little help if possible, hard work from Argentina.
Best to all
Cheers Andi

Big things to look for on these after having bought one the speedo display being lcd shits itself after a little riding time....I got two hours into the ride after buying it and it was almost unreadable as the lcd display just disappears....googled it when I got home to find its a massive problem and well known to ktm....other biggie is the four tank bolts shear after a while especially if used off road....you can check by lifting the tank as it is also part of the seat and see if there is any movement...simple fix is to buy the aftermarket bolts and replace them...other little things are minor like the fan rub and chocolate brake pedal....hope this is of help...if not ignore me!

Heya thepom ... I ignore everyone so I won't single you out :shit:
Thanks for the info man :Punk:, yeah I know about the tank but not the others, looking at the LCD it was the same as my 2010 990 SMR which was good, do you know if the orange makers have made any advancements or same old??
If'/when we get this or a 690 I may question you a little if poss so I am not reinventing the wheel.
Cheers man

Hi andi...I was talking with some guys that all ride 690,s and the 2008 early models had speedo issues ...the 2013 model seems to have it fixed....there was a link on adv rider website but it has now gone. It was called 690 hall of fame and had a lot of the issues on it and how to fix them but now it has gone,I tried to find it and was going to put it on here for you but no luck. They are awesome bikes and the later models have longer oil service intervals between them. Mine is every 5k but later ones 7.5k and the newer ones 10k......drop me a line and I ll try to help with the other mods but there are not much more....one other is an aftermarket fuel filler cap which has a taller neck to stop dirt dropping into the tank.....I ll see if I can find any other links to help you out.....:niceone:

Screen problems aren't 690 specific sadly. My friend is on his third on his 990, and they've replaced it out of warranty for him.

Hey Andi
Had some experience with 690's myself. Great bike for NZ conditions - 2014 incarnation is by far the bestest but not many 2nd handers around. Good luck with the end leg of ya epic adventure!
