A trailer missing a wheel was towed for several kilometres by a driver who was "blissfully unaware" anything was wrong, police say.

They would not face charges, Stewart said.

I'd rather be buzzed by some dude at 200+ that's paying attention to what he's doing than be anywhere near this dip shit, but apparently it's not even worthy of some defensive driving lessons.

Yeah .. and "Sorry Officer, I was blissfully unaware of the motorcyclist coming the other way ..." could well be his excuse in the future !!!!

No charges laid, huh.

Guess the 5-0 only care about speed these days, not about safety.

He will have passed the attitude test, no priors and the cop prob wanted to get home and watch the rugby instead of doing the paperwork. But this is the way our legal system works, do something really dumb and hurt no one, just get warning. Do same thing and hurt someone and your buggered...
This sort of shit bothers me as if you cant notice something dragging and scraping like that your not paying attention at all. I don't normally travel in holiday traffic but the last three consecutive times there has always been a caravan or boat trailer beached somewhere with missing wheel...

Oh and just to indemnify my hypocracy I nearly lost a trailer wheel off b-train once as mechanic had changed tyre and not told my swap partner. Murphys law my torch was flat that night so did half arse check of unit, got to Auckland with a very wrecked hub and a twelve stud wheel held on by seven washer thickness (filed away by wheel movement) nuts. I felt physically sick when I saw it as I immediately recognized the potential for disaster... Some serious shit came down for several of us in the firing line for that one... But a bloddy car trailer dragging on the ground only 2 metres behind you, should be noticeable...

One of our clients lost a complete hub with dual wheels attached from their B Train, it wasn't until they parked up for the night and walked past the unit they saw it was missing

By some fluke they managed to find it at Orari so they had driven 130 odd km with it missing
