So - who purchased a new Scout or one of the other models.

Rave away please.

I see Cockram Motorcycles are selling Indians in Christchurch - I missed that one. http://cockrammotorcycles.co.nz/

KB'er Navy Boy has a Scout. I've ridden with him and was pretty impressed with how it went. The sound of peg scraping on the Coro Loop over our comms was quite loud in the tight stuff  . He's now living a bit closer to you in Blenheim.

I am curious after seeing them at the Nelson Classic Bike Museum with the new models having a very similar style to some of the older ones.

Nelson Classic bike museum still open?
funny how the newer bikes have a similar style from the same manufacturer, wonder why that is?

never really been a fan of Indian motorcycles but the odd one stands out, like this one from OC
(It's not my favourite but it's all I could find)
its the oversized mudguards on the standard models-yes it's the style, it just do anything for me.

The museum closed last Saturday with all stock to be auctioned overseas due to owners ill health.

Insert Toyota dogs remark here. You know the one.:weep:

I'd probably sell a kidney for one of these.

Even then I'd probably need a loan arranger.http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160507/f9ba2972a2cb97a52a2997551aa353c0.jpg

Dat's just Bewdiful! I've ridden a 2015 Scout, the proper one with 1135 cc's not the deranged little ass'd ones the 60's with just 999cc's.
Loved it's response and cornering, took it for a longish ride an hour or so, the poor old salesman was very glad to see me rocking back up.
Price was a bit step for me. But.

Resale is gonna be the main issue for Indian and Victory at the mo.

Every Indian I have seen just looks all kinds of ugly.

Harley really has that style sorted. I would take a Harley any day if I was looking for a cruiser.

Indian have several nice models as do Victory...both brands (in my opinion) have the 'what were they thinking' models. The Fatbob and the Muscle in the Harley range are two standout bikes for me. But having only ever ridden one cruiser ever, my thoughts on them are purely from an aesthetic point of view.

Aye +1, quite like some Sportsters - an underrated bike, often located at the rear of a store

It is amazing how just a few farkles/tweaks/exhaust/mods/paint can change a mediocre looking model into something awesome, no matter what it is......:innocent:

If you buy a bike that you are happy to ride for many years resale becomes less of an issue. With these niche bikes a 30 min ride test ride that most shops offer is just not going to be long enough. I would actually be prepared to hire one for a few days before deciding. The Victory bikes do have a cheap look about them unlike Harley and Indian in my opinion.

Wellington Motorcycles are selling certain Victories at 7k off old retail. IF you'd purchased one at 24k, then found out they were selling them for 17k, you'd shit yourself no matter how long you planned on keeping the thing. If you went to trade it now...they'd see it as 13k retail tops, trade it at 10k. How would you feel about that?

No different from the massive hit early VFR 1200 owners took when dealers started heavily discounting to get shot of them (at least $7k). Probably other examples too.

Absolutely mate! As a bike salesman...it's a fucking disaster and not something I like. Honda also did so with their chopper model.

You will always get a discount if you are prepared to wait until a bike or anything else gets "run out model" pricing. If you want to be first with the lastest you have to be prepared to pay more. My last few bikes I have bought at runout model prices but have only got 3k off at the most. If Victories have run out model prices that big it would be certainly be worth it to wait untill the end of the year or just before a new model is due to come out. The only problem with waiting for run out pricing is that not all models are available.

Thanks for that. I wasn't quite sure how things worked in the bike industry.

Yeah Pete, wot he said! Oh my Gawd, sorry mate I just realised who it was what got you going.
No keeping fuckwits down is there????
I'd not be too concerned at resale for a bike I really wanted and after test riding it for a while was prepared to buy, but when you start talking that sort of price variation and I know that's where it is at sometimes I'd stop short ( as I have) and wait a bit longer.

Is this Womans Weekly ?

Fuck sake if you want it an like it and can afford it. Buy your dream. If you are a sorry sack and sit there waiting for a discount you are most likely to end up without your ideal bike.

In answer to the original question......I own a 15 vintage in green and cream. Having owned many bikes (American, Italian and Japanese) in sports, cruisers and adventure bikes, I can say that this bike is the best bike for me. I owned a Harley softail. Nothing against it but I haven't had to spend $$$$$$$$$ on the Indian to get the sound and handling sorted. I have not owned a bike that gets so much attention either. As I said best bike for me and me alone. It might not be everyone's cup of tea but that is what makes life great. Just my 2c worth

Nice - good to hear positive comments regarding the dealer as well. I'd like to see Indian do well - they are acing the classic look but also cracking out some more modern variations - the Scout is a great example.

Ironically most people who buy an Indian or a Victory used to be HD owners.

Since HD turned into a marketing company which sells motorbikes (instead of a motorbike company which has a marketing dept) they have lost quite a few of their original followers.

Of course those they lost have been replaced by the legions of lawyers, doctors and accountants who are rediscovering their youth.

As Blackbird mentioned a while back I own a Scout which I bought almost a year ago. I love it (I own a Victory Vision too so perhaps I have strange taste!) and for me it's the best cruiser-style of machine I've ever ridden.

I like H-D. I owned an XR1200x a few years back and enjoyed it but I always found the motor a bit disappointing as it lacked the kick I'd have expected of a 1200 V-Twin when you opened it up a little. The Scout's got a cracking motor and I find it comfy too. Each to their own of course but as far as lighter weight cruisers go I think the Scout takes some beating.

So do you guys still own your Scouts? Can I have some feedback please from real owners on the experience, the good and bad.

Too late now I have ordered one in blue after seeing this picture. Love at first sight. I want the same screen and bags which I reckon transform the look into something I could tour on all day, without putting my licence at risk for a change.

Took a Bobber for a test ride to get a feel for the motor and general feel of the thing. Whole new world to the feeble dinosaur Harley Sportster 1200 I once owned. Still ridiculous lack of cornering clearance but I guess that's all cruisers.

And it's also too foggy and rainy for fun riding
