Bonjour biker !
I have a lot to say but please forgive me for my english.
My name is Anne-Sophie and I am 29. I am doing my Working Holidays Visa in your beautiful country. What is the best to visit NZ ? Of course, is by Motorbike, like I did few years ago in Spain (11200 km in 35 days), alone... It was so good.
My bike is a R6 2001. I don't like so much sportive bike. Currently, I am selling it in my country, hoping to buy one here. But I saw some price on your market, and I can say.... it's very expensive here...
I am searching a roadster like Z750 2004 because I really know this bike. (My last 3 bikes was this one :-)).
So, if someone can help me to find something not so expensive I will be very happy...
I am open to drink a coffe if you want.
BTW, I have 11 years of motorbike licence and 7 years of car licence.
Thank you to read it.
Saucisse from Toulouse.
PS : I hope to do some ride with you soon

Your not likely to be taken up on that offer. We don't drink coffee on a first date.

Hi Anne-Sophie, welcome to New Zealand and to Kiwibiker :wavey:
This country is great for motorbiking so sell your bike at home as quick as possible and get something here.
Hope to see you out on the road sometime.

Best to see? South Island. All/any of it
Give us a yell if you're through Picton, there are a few here who ride regularly and can show you a few local spots, although a lot are well documented.
Enjoy NZ!
Oh, and yeah no such thing as a cheap bike here bud! Couch surfing will save you money for one though.

Bonjour Anne-Sophie.
We have a small market. So nothing much is cheap, compared to the Continents.
Enjoy your stay. :niceone:

Welcome. Prices should reduce as we head into winter, but you have to wait for sellers to accept this, or get desperate to sell.
Also, depending on what sort of riding you like to do, consider a dual purpose bike, as many of the most beautiful places in NZ are down the gravel roads.

Thank you all for your answers.
Sorry, I come from France but I don't drink any alcohol... :-) maybe better when you ride a bike...
Yep I will wait some times before to buy one, considering the wether (I from the sunnnnnn) and considering the fact that I am looking for a job. But all job seems to be for citizens people... :-(
I was thinking to take a roadster, not sure if I want to drive off road... I never done it.
Hope to see you soon

Welcome...
Best time to be here on a bike id from just after middle of January or February. Here we really celebrate Christmas as its our long summer vacation. You want to start after all the kids have gone back to school. School is out from mid December to end of January (with variations around that).
This is an island climate. We are too far from Australia to get their continental stabilising effect on the weather. Being surrounded by ocean we get wind here. Before Christmas you get the spring equnoxial winds so the weathers better after Christmas as well but you can get a southerly storm any time so make sure you have all weather riding gear. Its still quite nice now for riding...
Closer to the time - post up where you are flying in to (Auckland or Christchurch) and someone will advise on best routes etc.
Word of caution - this is a very safe country but we have our fair share of dropkicks too. Be sensible - if you leave stuff laying about - someone will steal it so usual precautions are advised... Sadly some very few see tourists as income...
Enjoy

...I met an intrepid Frenchman on the highway recently...he was touring the country and had done a lot of miles on a Honda 125 dirtbike...he had a big smile and said he covered as much distance as was necessary every day to see what he came here for...a realist, perhaps?...

Thank you all.
In fact, my plan is to make some money during 6 or 8 months enjoying my weekend to visit the North Island and take 1 or 2 months off for the South Island.
CB900 is interesting, but what is the price ? Can you give some picture and a rapid description concerning the state ?
I would love to find something good under 4000$...

Nah. They're just downsizing and moving to Petone without Harley or Suzuki brands. I'm there until the end of this month. Hell yes. I'll sell anything not bolted down mate.
