I'm with Waylander on this Scooterboy, that's like saying all Americans are dicks just because Bush is a dick!
Haven't we all learnt that generalisations cause too much shit in these forums?

Well,I'll admit to being pretty dumb - I've done over 100mph (160kph) wearing no helmet,no gloves, cotton work shirt, jeans and sneakers, done it many times, even crashed in the same attire - I'm 52 years old and STILL riding bikes! It may be stupid - but it's not a death sentence...

I'll just add to that, Even you dont have to pay for it do you Waylander?
IN NZ we see it as stupid becuase if some idiot damages him self, the whole country pays up ACC and such, comes out of our taxes and increases our ACC levies in the Vehicle Licensing.
In the States, i understand there is no Public Health like we have it here, if you guys bang yourselves up, YOU pay, heard stories about ambulances arriving and then buggering off as the guy didnt have health insurance?
That would probably go a long way to explain the differing outlooks on the situation.

come on, am i the only one that will stick up for scooterboy?
everytime i see those guys on those uncomfortable, streched out piles of metal (generalizing as usual, but they look like crap compared to a ducati 999rs thats cheaper) i cringe, youl be able to find my other thread in here somewhere "this is why you wear protection on a bike" some of the draw backs from not wearing the right gear.

Hello scooterboyNZ, you are right to have an opinion about anything. It is only when you express it and cause someone else offence that it becomes a problem. You are then interfering with their rights too. You would be wiser to express it as a question IE:Are those yanks wise doing that without helmets.
Less offensive or inflammatory but then Waylander might belt you for calling them Yanks. None of us used to wear helmets when we were young, even the racers wore the funniest looking hats you ever saw, like basins turned upside down. I won't ride without a helmet now not just because it's the law but it feels right just like seat belts in a cage. What I detest is that some do gooding bastard says I have to do it. Just like smoking and all the other Liberty sapping rules that you have grown up with. Having to obey whether you like it or not. Why can't you make up you own mind? Soon you will have to be told by rule when to wipe your own arse, or is that one here already. Fuck I hate bloody rule makers. Sheesh, John. :motu: the establishment I say.

I personally enjoy those programmes, some awesome looking machinery rolls out of those shops "personal preference". As for helmets If one does not have to wear one then the norm is not to wear one. On the farm I did not "Have To", so I didn't it was too much hassle to wear one, stupid, maybe, so now I prefer an open face, stupid, maybe. Been riding for almost 30 years and as the laws change, so to do our habits - eventually. I personaly hate seatbelts seen the law change from not being required, to front seats to everything including the dog being belted in. I put it on because I have to - or pay for the privalege of not wearing one. The next generation coming up accepts these laws because thay know no different - just another time and another place :sherlock:

,,, fuck yanks are dumb!
i ride in jeans and sneakers or workboots all the time.. my choice, because i grew up in a place where we could pretty much make our own choices (not like that anymore sadly) and were not subjected to a Nana- State.
at the end of the day.. pretty hard to fuck something up that hasnt been fucked up before on me..i've looked at Death more than most people on here have looked at TV and we are old friends.
i would ride without a helmet if the !#$% cagers were more alert here.
:brick:
(ps... 2 groups i hate more than anything are thieves and racists :angry2:
p.p.s.... im not a racist.. i hate everyone :finger:.. especially those curvy things with the boobs and the bad attitudes
p.p.p.s. i do like Jack Danials however

What is it with balding bearded guys that choose to wear Holden sweat shirts. Shit they're dumb. :nya:

Pretty much correct except that I've never heard of an ambulance turning away becouse the injured couldn't afford it. They usually cure you then bill you later. So if someone fucks up no one but them has to cover it.
Some states like Texas require you to have a certain amount on a life insurance policy in order for you to ride with out a helmet.

It's a bit sad how we've,willingly, given away our freedom over time, because ''it's a good idea''.Not many remember a time when we rode what we liked, wearing what we liked, where we liked, making as much noise and mess as we liked. We were selfish, and later generations are paying the price....Don't blame it on Helen, this goes way back, waaaaay back - to Sir Keith Holyoake and his National Government, and it's been a bit here and a bit there ever since.
It's been really getting up my nose here lately as we have young guys saying you must do this, and you must do that,or you are an irresponsable retard....and in the next thread heaping venom upon the Government of the time for it's nanny state - come on,you can't have it both ways!

I don't have problem with Merkins as individuals, I deal with them everyday, but as a country they're not exactly covering themselves with glory lately.
