Graelin
1st May 2015, 03:01
This ride had 60 participants and left Sydney on the 26 th of July 2014 and ended 32 days later at Bondi Beach.
I rode my BMW R1100S the longest day was around 840 Kms and the total distance 14,600 kilometres. We also had State Rides coordinated and these joined us for a couple of days before heading off on their rides.
The coldest day was minus 2C in the Mountains in New South Wales and Max was 38C North West WA.
We raised awareness of depression and suicide prevention as we visited country towns, I conducted three School visits as well talking to kids about mental health.
We raised an amazing $411,900 on this ride and half went to LifeLine Australia to expand the OnLine Crisis Support Service, extended from four hours per night to nine hours from our funding.
The other half went to Mental Health First Aid to roll out a Teen Mental Health First Aid Course to disadvantaged High Schools in Australia.
I was the mental health liaison officer for the ride.
We are a small group dedicated to this cause and tragically one of our members and a ride leader that I rode the 2013 ride with was tragically lost in a crash with a truck. As you can imagine this has devastated us and the ride has been completed in the memory of Les James. Personally this has hit me as I had a job to do with my position on the ride.
Apart from this we achieved our objectives and completed a epic ride.
