Wobbly Right Front Caliper

Got a dealers plate and took the ZXR for a spin today (after getting my brake cert...)

Was cruising along looked down at the front wheel and calipers.

The left caliper one is completely stationary, but the right one is shaking all crazy 2mm or so left and right!

Applied the brakes to pull over and noticed the thing totally stopped shaking... released the brakes up it starts again...

Any ideas? (Keeping in mind they are floating calipers, and I did JUST get a brake cert...) - and that when braking it stops viabrating - not a bend disc?

Also snapped my speedo cable (not hard to replace but what a pain in the ass right before a VIN)

Is it your caliper or your rotor that is shaking?

also if it is a warped disk, you'll feel it pulsing through the brake lever when you apply the brakes.

With my limited knowledge of brakes, I would say that doesn't sound good!

The whole caliper wobbles... not the rotor as far as I can tell...



also if it is a warped disk, you'll feel it pulsing through the brake lever when you apply the brakes.

There is absolutely NO pulsing

I agree, however they seem to work fine, and it passed a brake cert minutes before I noticed this...

If it passed a brake cert, I would say either everything is in order, or they havent tightened something up.

could just be worn rubbers/bushes. Have a look at the mount bolts for the caliper, and there should be a rubber 'thing' between the bolt and caliper. If they're a bit worn or split, it'll do that. I say 'thing' cos I'm going from when I had the same issue with my CBR, but Kawa might have done something a little different with their design for your bike

Like Bugjuice says. It's a good idea to start with the blindingly obvious and work upwards in complexity from there. Sounds like your caliper is loose. Check that your calipers are bolted tightly to the fork legs (check 'em both for safety's sake). Grab each caliper with your hand and see if it wiggles about on any axis. It shouldn't.

I had to get some new caliper bolts to pass the cert, im 100% certain that they are tight as I did them up myself... and I checked them!

As far as 'thinggies' are concerned, there is nothing between the caliper and mount on either side from memory.

Im starting to think the disc is a tiny bit warped, but not too much for the float to take up?

Grab each caliper with your hand and see if it wiggles about on any axis. It shouldn't.Please explain why the calipers on 3 of my cickles "wobble" when moved by hand.
