Quiet helmets?

I am looking for advise on Helmets regarding wind noise.
I spent an average or just below amount on a helmet and it seems to have considerable wind noise.
This will be my main criteria in finding a replacement.
Do any of you fellow riders Know of or use a helmet that has a really low wind noise factor and is the amount of money you spend on a helmet proportional to the wind noise factor.

Buy a helmet that fits well, A well fitting helmet will be quieter and safer than an expensive non fitting helmet.
I always wear ear plugs. makes a big difference to wind and motor noise

Not all heads are created the same (shape). What may work for us on our bikes ... may not work for you.

A screen (or lack of) may also change the amount of wind noise you get.

Poorly fitting helmets ... or poorly sealing visors also ..

Try a sports balaclava under your helmet or foam air plugs (or both) ... both of which may help.

A multi vent type helmet can also create wind noise.


Test drive a few helmets before you buy ...

I had a really hard time finding a quiet helmet that I also liked. So I bought the helmet I wanted and wear earplugs, which makes the wind noise almost zero.

I got a new HJC FG-17 at Christmas - quietest helmet I have owned.

HOWEVER - I find it depends a lot on the bike you are riding as well - a change in position, screen, no screen etc etc........ plus your height relative to any given bike and seating position ..............

I had a quiet helmet last week, this week it's a noisy helmet. I took my screen off last week to see how it affected buffeting around my chin, but then the bike wasn't nice in head winds on the way home. It's really noisy with the screen, moving out into the airflow it goes quiet again.

Over and above other factors (including wind turbulence), use ear plugs. The wind noise at 100kph is enough to give you permanent hearing loss.

Agreed with the above. My Bandit with the screen at full height is horrid for wind noise, have it down and its quiet.

My call is most noisy helmets are in fact the riders position on the bike and if a screen is used. Bandit with the screen off is very quiet.

I have an Arai, it is quieter than my Shoei.

BUT.

My partner has worn an Arai, and says it noisier than her Shoei.

But if you wear ear plugs, then you can use whatever helmet you can afford.. Problem solved.

And they are cheaper than buying an expensive helmet and finding its noisy.
