Is there any cellphone holders that attach to handlebar that you would recommend?
I've heard these are good. Seen a couple videos where guys crash/lowside at approx 50kph and the phone still stays in.
No idea where you get them in NZ though.

Did they crash because they were looking at their goddam phone?
I have a ram mount, its great.
I use it with an android phone which I have a digital speedo on. It goes red between the speed limit (any of) and 4kmh over. If I am, say, riding at night on the motorway (happens a lot), I just try and keep it in the "red" and I know I am mostly ok.
I can also have GPS running if I need it. I also have a USB charger so most of the time my phone is just in there charging in case I need it for more important stuff like taking pics, or calling the mrs to tell her the ride is going to take 6 hours longer than normal because we got too carried away.

I must admit I've done it once, used NAVfree to find a Tme address after a purchase.
I discovered my Iphone fits quite snugly between the bar risers, under the bars and sits on/above the Steering head bolt.
I also know the txt that came in that showed as a header on the screen, I couldn't help tryin to read.
It was a safe trip well on control but never done it again. If I'm lost I stop, get my phone out my pocket every few K's.
I think it a bit Hypocritical the have a big bitch about car drivers on cell phones if we mount the fuckers on our handlebars??
Sorry I may be old school but when I ride, I ride, no distractions, no ear plugs, no MP3, No cell phone, No blue tooth.
Listen to the throb of the twin, the wind, Traffic, Peripheral vision activated, eyes on the road, hopefully small brain engaged.
My bikes my happy place, alone time or shared with my precious cargo behind me = Cellphone in pocket
I'm not one to preach on here or have a crusade, not bagging anyone for doing different, its their choice, their safety.
My opinion only, take it or leave it

The only thing I ever have available to play with while riding is my heated grips but I don't buy the argument that any possible distraction is necessarily a distraction. If it were you'd have to carry children in a closed, separate compartment.
People who drive badly while using their phone do so because they're bad drivers. They'd find something else to fuck with if they didn't have a phone to hand. Or just daydream.

need to make sure you have the right size for your phone and when choosing take charger/phone cable to make sure you can plug in and charge whilst on the move.
IE the cable is plugged in to charge while in the holder.
if you plan to get a bigger phone get one you can try as per above.
yeah they are great. I got an Aquabox its quite good but i had to do a mod to the box to attach the cable for the S4mini
other than that the Aquabox has a touch capable screen (dont think it works with apple phones - different sensing tech)
And the screen is replaceable-need to replace mine after the experiment...... which worked. LOL
Used the phone for navigation, directions etc. I don't have Helmet Bluetooth and not familiar with country roads, so phone not much good for spoken communication
Found the phone lasted 4 hours on the run. I was lost.:shit:
Yeah riding byself in the middle of nowhere has its moments, but i made it out of Wanganui where the horses have odometers apparently.
Check out the website. The guy is friendly

I have an i4 case I have been meaning to pay forward. I tried it but didn't like it. I prefer to put phone in pocket and BT to helmet for GPS.

I had no end of trouble with the 'touch capable' cover and my Sony phone too, might be the same issue.
I ended up ditching it altogether and making an aluminium insert with a cutout that I could stick an ordinary flat piece of flexible plastic to, which solved the problem.
The stock cover I got was wavy, ie it didn't sit flat on the surface of the phone which seemed to confuse it, as I had to press harder in places to push the membrane flat enough to make contact - especially tricky when swiping.
YMMV.

Don't really use it to access the phone or web, just to protect it from the elements, with no blue tooth needed visual directions from the GPS (never been to most places)
Got caught out as the phone cable didn't fit when inserted into phone, made a 'mod' then that's OK
I didn't take the cable when I brought the mount -
My phone holder has never let me down.

Real bikers don't use GPS :shifty:... only those who want to know where they'll end up, ultimately you'll get there GPS or not, difference being, you get to see more without technology.

Well I only ever use mine as a street directory around town really, beats the A5 spiral bound thing I used to use. I'm not sure you would eventually find your way out if you were lost in Auckland, actually...maybe that's why so many of us are stuck here?

I still dont get the need for GPS in NZ. Just something else to distract a rider.

its an aid, not a necessity. helpful when you dont have a map or any idea of where you are (off road) and fuel is running low, and your out of cell phone coverage on your own.:facepalm:
On the main highways no real need unless your unfamiliar with the area/territory you are in.
much like extra fuel on long trips into the wilderness aye - can be handy when your in the shit:cool:

agree with this, i was at an accident not to long ago as a vollunteer firefighter, we had to close the road but in order to do so had to go about 6km away from accident scene so no big red engine, only portable red flashing light and accident sign with my car parked on side of road with hazards going and me waving a torch (it was at night and dark), dickhead talking on phone nearly took me out as he went past red flashing light and accident sign without slowing down, think he got a surprise when he got to accident scene and got balled out by the police and made to turn around and come back to appologise and take the detour, not long after that another cop turned up and left his car parked across road with disco lights going and we still had people trying to go round and one woman must have been on a really important call because her phone got thrown on to the seat when she was only bout 20 feet away from us, flash of light going from her ear down to the passenger seat kinda gave it away.

My cellphone lives in my Ventura bag .. I don't really use it much ... just to let the wife know I'm still alive if I'm out overnite ..
Thanks for the reminder - I haven't checked for messages since about this time last week ..

That must be valid advice, still works for me. Maybe it's because I see time on the bike as "time incommunicado" then?
Ram mounts have a great rep but I got a cheap one off aliexpress.com that did the same job for about $15.
Unless you have gloves that work with touch screens I found it a waste of time, plus I wanted to use the radio drive app without cords in the way.
I have a Ram mount and aquabox - fitted my old iPhone 4 and also takes a 5. Generally good but if you open it when it is drizzling and any moisture gets inside it will fog over when you close again. I used it when I was using the Tomtom ap on my phone trying to find my way around odd places like Auckland and Christchurch. Can also plug in headphones to listen for texts/calls or listen to music and close the cover on the cable - eventually probably break the cable but seemed to work okay. I haven't mounted on my Hornet as yet as I need to add a 12v outlet for charging.

I have the claw and the AquaBox. The aquabox has a place underneath for you to take your USB cable out. I also have a 15$ USB charger, which has a clock faceplate to keep it dry (and tell me the time).
I use this as a speedo: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.binarytoys.speedometer&hl=en
As I say, it has the ability to set tolerances, which is very handy because they change colour, and you dont have to look at it to know what speed you're doing.
It also tells you how far, what direction, what max/avg speed, and you can use nav with it as well (it uses google).
Has anyone tried a wireless charging holder? I couldn't find one for my phone at the time but it would eliminate a bit of the cable hassles I thought

No, smart cops would type the address into the Cars GPS and they'll be there asap...I don't understand your logic here?
How did you get on pre GPS?
I see you were last logged in at 12:32 today? do you have to think about your answer?

You don't need phone mounted on handlebars to use GPS, type destination in google maps, pop in a earphone, mobile in inside pocket and get voice prompts to your destination. Riding with earphones is possibly contravertial but much less distracting than visual prompts/directions.

Depends, if you calmly state you're deciding whether to use .338 or .50 cal ammo on the intruder...the excitement level goes way up on the other end of the line :nono:

Now, that's dirty pool!
Not fair on our Popo control room staff, they know not what to do then.
But it most certainly does get a far quicker response time and someone most definitely arrives, looking for You, not the fucking arsehole who caused the problem.

I toyed with the idea of the phone mounted on the bars simply for the GoPro app. The remote battery doesn't last very long, and the app shows the view the camera is looking at. Might be handy to see when a big hairy bug has splattered himself across the centre of the lense. The app also is far easier to operate the camera than the remote.
Dont know how well the camera would hold up.

Had a ram mount for the GPS on the ZZR and it worked great. Used it for a few years touring all over Europe. Am just in the process of getting one for the new girl. They're not really that expensive and last for years.
