View Full Version : 1985 GB400 TT - what's it worth?

Hard question to answer without viewing the actual bike itself I know, but does anyone know what these go for?
It's a 1985 Honda GB400tt, 43,000kms on the clock, no visible crash damage or drop marks. Imported by Red Baron roughly a year ago.
Some very minor superficial rust, as you get on any chrome of that age.
1 month left on WOF and Rego. Good tyres, possibly needs a tune up.
Any help is greatly appreciated. Not sure how much these go for, and not sure if I'm in the right ball park.
Cheers

I believe the standard in these parts is 5 bux and a bag of doritos.

Is that the one on trademe for about $6,200?? (if you can find it)
I believe (and I have one) its overpriced by about $2,500 and should sell for about $3,700
Its a nice one but not $6k nice

Thanks Murray, I know the one you mean, it's not that one but one that has since been taken down from trademe.
That one did seem overpriced, I'm thinking this one might be too at 4G.

I keep my eye on the prices of the GBs and a good one is worth around $3500.

Yep agree with that

Good advice but if you want one and its the only nice one you can find 4grand isn't out of the question. Supply and demand. A lot of GB owners will be keeping rather than selling now. Its not the kind of bike people buy as a short term ownership ride anymore.

Yep agree to that - I now have mine on hold and hope to do some tidy up work over the coming year. Its a rocket, done high km's but just had rings, timing chain and other engine bits done 1,000 kms ago and wow what a difference.
Strange thing with it is that it has 6 gears and front sprocket has an added tooth which gears it up even further?? Roll along the 60km roads in 2nd easily

Since this photo I have replaced side covers, exhaust and added a small windscreen, plus the engine work. Tank needs repainting, has a wee dent on the other side, front shocks need new black rubber grommets, external engine needs good polish - its going to be a very nice bike (well it is currently but even nicer)

Yeah Shane, but you are a tight arse-For unmolested, medium k's, tidy bikes I would expect $4K for a 400 and $5K for a 500--These are a very collectible bike with a big cult following, the original 80's café racer.

Interesting that second hand, they're worth more than I paid for a brand new one in 1987 which was $3750. Mine was midnight blue metallic - have never seen another one.

$3750 in 1987 is how much in todays $? That would have been a months wage for some in 1987, while today its about a weeks wage for the rich pricks--I understand that a 500,still in the crate was auctioned in USA recently and fetched US$16000

Don't know, but my wife was not best pleased as I'd gone to Auckland to pick up a yacht sail and came back with a deposit paid on the GB400 as well.
There was a European version of the 500 called the XBR with the same running gear but a slightly different tank, plastic guards, mags and a few other cosmetic differences. They never did achieve the cult status of the GB's. That's a heck of a price to pay in US$, but I guess crated makes all the difference.

LOL I was thinking the same thing. I paid $4299 for the Mk 2 with the little fairing and dedicated single seat. nice little bike.

It would have been around 1990 when I enquired about buying the half fairing to put on my bike. Honda's well-known larceny with respect to parts prices goes back at least that far as I was quoted $900 :shit: . I had a full fairing made for it in Hamilton based on an RZ350 for rather less than that!

Ha. Me too. Bought a new one in 86 and about $4200 from memory. I would be prepared to pay $42 now for one. Not that I want one. Had a massive tank range and cool looks. Not so much a power beast though.

I had one for years. Bought it over the 500 because of how much smoother it was. Great little bikes with a lot of possibilities for bumping up the modest stock horsepower - open up the airbox, fit a slide carb, that kind of thing. Fun rather than fast though.

Hi, I'm looking to buy or swap the instrument mounting plate from a MK2 as I have a GB500 and have installed the MK2 fairing. I'm missing the bolt holes on the instrument plate for the wiring/loom box. I didn't realise this when I purchased the fairing and the seller now refuses the swap the part with me. Even after offering to pay for and do the work to swap the parts.
Any help would be appreciated.
