View Full Version : Transporting a bike from Wellington to Christchurch

Lots of big changes since I was on here last...
I moved to Christchurch from Wellington a wee while ago and now I'm itching to bring my bike down.
I work stupid hours and don't get much time off so I was thinking about getting a transport company to help me bring the VFR down here.
Can someone recommend a good one, and possibly help with an estimate of how much its going to cost?
I don't really want to go back to Wellington if its going to cost more to ride it down than stick it on a truck.
TIA

I'm pretty darn happy here, and some of the changes are astounding!
I even bought the furry wrecking ball down too. Haha
Main reason I want my bike, is to go riding with my flatmate. He's got a fairly impressive collection of bikes.

Talk to a mocorcycle shop. See who they reccommend.
Borrow one of your flatmates bikes ... (ask nicely ..you know how .. )

simple answer, let mr google help and ask a few for quotes, you will be surprised the difference in prices, i used nz cycle movers to get a wing from tauranga to nelson then rode it from there to invercargil, cheap as chips and apart from them leaving the key in the wrong position (easy mistake to make) and flattening the battery, they did a brilliant job.
most use transit type vans that are set up for it though apparently there are some furniture movers that will chuck a bike in the truck but personally i would use a dedicated bike mover as they do it all the time and know how to look after your baby

F*CK NO.
I figured my best bet was to check on here to see if anyone else had done it and if they had a recommendation based on service.

I was going to suggest the Akzle moving Co. They charge a bag of chips.
A quick flight to Wellytown and ride her back down! A superb day trip, if ever there was one!!!:Punk:

contact Biketranz =====> http://www.biketranz.co.nz/index.php
Have used them twice with no issues... door to door service...
I'm up and down to Chch a bit... usually over the Lewis though, But... if you can get the bike to Picton I can chuck it on the back of the ute and bring it down.
And it'll only cost half a bag of chips :D

Be aware there are two motorcycle mover companies: http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php/157832-Rant-NZ-Motorcycle-Movers-are-bad-news
Biketranz is the other company you see moving motorcycles. Be aware they work to a schedule, need to fill the van etc, so it could be weeks before it gets down to you.
As said... it's a day trip :ride:

get someone to load it on bluebridge ferry, they do bike shipping across the ditch, grab a free relocate rental car, there's plenty that go to picton all the time with free motion lotion, drive up and grab ya bike, take a hose to syphon some of the gas out of the rental too, that'll save a quid or two...
