be careful of 99 through 02 r6's as they have a weak 2'nd gear and will be in the price bracket you are looking at, expect 2-3k to fix.

Thanks

I've found and read some other threads in this forum and decided to look for a Honda CBR600RR 2003-2006 since they are in my price bracket

One things for sure, unless you've taken a very long time to get your full, any of the bikes you've mentioned will be more bike than you might expect, the SV could well be your best option and perhaps your safest.

You're doing it wrong. CBD I'd be going motarded for maximum shits & giggles and never in neutral.

Plus 1.
Nothing legal you can't do with a motard, more fun staying legal and costs less.

Check Trademe - you will pick up a tidy Honda 900 Hornet for $6500 or there abouts.

Get a CBR600RR - I had one in Auckland traffic and out on the open road.

Bulletproof bike and handles like a dream.

O please ... they are under-powered.

I'd rather have this ... On mine I've left so many SVs in my exhaust fumes ... (and no, it's not a sports bike .. Sport/tourer.)

Out of the OPs list I'd take the R6 ...

On the roads that matter there by no means under-powered,if indeed you on such roads have left SVs behind then whoever was piloting em had little ability. That said what you have suggested would be worth a look by the op.

Buy at the peak of winter, sell at the beginning of summer. Wouldn't bother with SV650, they're too old now. Also you will grow out of it.

In the peak of winter (a month or so from now) you will be able to pick up a GSX-R or ZX-R or CBR within your budget.

Translation, OP wants a faired sports bike.

The newer ones are priced outside OP's budget.

The older ones are 10+ years old and still pretty expensive for what they are.

Oh is 10 years a OLD bike now?

I skimmed the title and read it as bros 650 around the 5k mark; little high, but not by too much if you want a mint one  Recently celebrated the silver anniversary too :sunny: 10 years is just an uppity whipersnapper.

This is good value and a little more suitable in the city limits plus touring and passenger ability.
Trade off is less sporty than your list.

Age is subjective of course. If I had a set budget I'd go for the newest vehicle possible.

Just like if you were looking for a screw you'd choose the younger broad not the old wrinkled, used up one. (Unless that sort of thing floats your boat?)

Kawi er6 , Suzi sv650 or weestrom . None are sexy but bloody good all round bikes that will give enough performance for NZ conditions.
You would be surprised how quick a good rider can be on those machines.

Set reading comprehension to "whut?"

Anyone who wants a cheap 600cc sportsbike is only thinking about sex. Because they're not getting any. Us old people need to stop making sensible suggestions. We've given up on worrying about having sex and that's incomprehensible to people who want 600cc sportsbikes.

No doubt.

It would have higher kms, and/or be older, but that's fine. I just bought a bike with high kms myself. Needed a new chain, mind.

I don't know that SV1Ks are 1.5x the bike that SV650s are though. Online reviews would suggest not, but I've not ridden a 1K.

That KTM 690SM looks good for a hooligan option though!

An SV1K with similar kms and one year newer sold for less money on TM the other week. SV650S are so overpriced.
I'd rather spend the coin on a VTRthou, then you can still have a poo handling bike, but with a much nicer sound track. and a lot of change in the pocket
And wheelies
