Yeah, I was brought up by a mother whose rule of thumb was "if you're doing something wrong/illegal/any behaviour you know is stupidly reckless etc. and it goes pear shaped, it's not an accident - if you hadn't been doing it it wouldn't have happened". Despite mum always trying to be fair in her dealings with everyone she is a disciplinarian and has never been able to suffer fools gladly. She would pronounce his guilt without batting an eyelid for the sheer fact of him riding his bike on the footpath knowing you're not supposed to do it. The fact that he's no doubt gotten away with it countless times and not hit anyone else, kid or otherwise, is irrelevant.
