Hi all,
Its insurance renewal time and I get a quote from YOUI after watching the marketing campaign on the TV.

They were way cheaper than my current insurance deal, for very similar excess etc. Almost too good to be true.

They were very pushy on the phone trying to get a sign-up but I insisted on having a good read of the policy etc before committing (and giving me a chance to ask my Kiwibiker brothers for feedback!).

One thing that did worry me was they didn't ask for a value of the bike, the policy says 'market value', rather than a $ value.

Does anyone have any experiences of dealing with them come claim time?

cheers

Have you got a quote from http://www.kiwibike.co.nz/ to compare?
If not then do so.
I insured a $13k 1300cc bike for ~$500, not bad IMO.

The Youi reps are trained to have lizard tongues. Yes there quotes were very competitive and I went for agreed value.
We'll see how good they really are if I ever need to claim.

Check thoroughly what they cover and in particular what their excess is and who is covered when riding. They were miles dearer on my bandit and they didn't cover my gear or the pillions for $3 K and $1,500 K respectively as Swann does, nor do they do roadside assists for anything like the same price, robbing barstards is what I sad last as i hung up.

Pushy for sure. I rung up for a quote and the guy was asking what it would take me to sign up that day because he wanted to get paid "for the work he'd done".

Said he didn't want to email anything to me to check over either, but a few hours later it showed up in my mailbox. Can't be arsed with that bullshit. Price was pretty much the same as my current insurance anyway.

I tried getting a quote from them, and everything sounded positive, except because my Hiace wasn't listed in the default options they had to fire it off to actuaries... who declined...

I suspect I might have dodged a bullet. Heard of a mate claiming for a broken window (car) that had a stand down period of 6 days or something, unless he waived something... Not much to go on, but "you get what you pay for" sounds about right.

They're probably using cheaper contractors to do work, turnarounds might be longer etc.

Happy with Kiwibike for bike (done a claim through them as well) and AMI for van (also had a claim through them but for a different vehicle).

We are with Protecta and have been for a while, the saving on a Full Comprehensive with policy V our prior insurer was substantial.
I can see yuoi being the same as a cheap airline whereas, you pay for a cheap seat but they get you with the fine print.

I've just been checking some reviews of Youi Australia and that is a recurring theme.

A lot of other criticisms you can easily find said of almost any insurance company.

What's your excess? I just had a quick look, $750 for me. Fuck that.

I know the guy who installed the computers into their call centre, the phone ops on first tier last on average 3 months --- their training and environment is high energy sell/close the deal and rack up the number as fast as you can

like all insurance, they'll do everything to get off the hook through technicalities so be careful when answering the questions on how/when/where you'll be riding

Try and get hold of the salesperson who sold you the policy to clarify a point , only to find that he no longer works for the company. Apparently they are pretty quick to grab your credit card details to auto deduct costs etc.

Their marketing implies that building an insurance policy specifically for you is a good thing, cause it's cheap.

The example I can remember is some business women who parks her car securely during the day.

What about on the weekends? or on holiday? or when she's at the super market? or what if her park becomes unavailable or she leaves the company?

It seems like you're just giving the insurance company more opportunity to find a technicality?

I bet the salesmen are really good at convincing a person they're specific to a policy rather than a policy specific to a person.

They sucked me in with a discount for having the car and bike with them + the hard sell. Then I discovered all the bits missing from the policy which made it cheap, amended those and ended up paying the same... Changing back to Swann for the bike, for the same price you get roadside assistance. Don't even think of insuring a Subaru with them if it's ever possible there could be an unnamed driver....

Personally I wouldn't touch them with a long stick.

Ahh. But! They were only asking MORE questions to "get to know you better" so they could really clarify your quote...

They were 3 times more expensive than my current insurance with kiwibike. Also they don't cover gear as previously said. Couldn't even get a reply back from them asking why they're 3 times more expensive

Tried to get an online quote from them the other day. Ended up on the phone to someone rather than a quick estimate like I hoped. after what seemed like 30 secs they are asking for my credit card number and won't go away. Turns out kiwibike would do a higher level of coverage (ie comprehensive vs 3Rd party fire abs theft) for about the same price and I got a nice email the next day with an even better rate offered and better premium. Haven't sorted the policy out yet but so far I much prefer them to youi.

As others have already stated, you'll get what you pay for. I have had nothing but positive service at a fair rate from Dave @ www.kiwibike.co.nz - That would be my recommendation.

Likewise.

I have never read more numerous, scathing comments directed towards a single company. Mostly to do with their attitude when it comes time to claim and the methods they use to sign you up (things like requiring credit card details for a quote and enacting a policy before the OK was given).

My immediate reaction when I first saw their ad. was that their model invalidated the whole point of insurance. Which is, in the absence of any real community, to spread the risk across the "community" that is the insurance companies clients.

YOUI are just the modern version of snake oil salesmen and should be avoided like the plague.

What kind of tard would give their credit card number for a quote? Don't even need to give your real address or name.

Agree wholeheartedly. My concern is that if you get a quote based on "I always park in a locked, alarmed garage that doubles as a kennel for 6 rottweilers" and your bike get's lifted from the front of a motel unit in BFE while you are on a charity ride, then where do you stand?

Their advertising simply puts me off.

thats interesting... since it was over 300 machines on pods setup, perhaps in the off-time southafrica/aussie call centre picks up the call (they are a south-african outfit)
