they were talking about digging a big tunnel for traffic heading out over the shore, and having the flyover for incoming traffic.. that would have worked, but cost a fortune.. just like everything else is..
will the roadworks ever end?

is harold kinda like sprot bike and gargre or do people just have a tendency to miss spell it...

dont really see what the point in shifting an existing motorway is.... gonna cause a fair bit of disruption in that area i would think.

They are such dumb shits. Why add one extra lane at a time? Sheesh, if we need an extra one after 10 years we'll need another in 7 and then another in 3. Why not just build another overpass and have one north and one south? There would be no disruption to the existing traffic etc. I suppose even though it costs us she-ite loads more in the long run the current government doesn't get wedge'd by their buddies for spending all the lunch money?

The old over pass has to go as it will become unsafe, I work for an engineering design firm (think Puhio). It all comes down to cost and what works best in the area. I agree that more lanes would be better, but it isn't going to happen. At least this way there is little disruption to traffic which plays a huge part in what they do.

cheers

Or they could just improve the public transport system and get some trains going from the shore and create a few more stations round the place.........sydney has more people than the entire NZ population living there and their traffic is still not as bad.....................go the trains

It will cost shit loads, so they will put petrol up to cover it, people will stop driving caus of the cost of gas (as they are already doing) and then we won’t need it!
Cool, a 5-lane road from Hamilton to Orewa(sp?) and 5 cars on it!
If I didnt ride I'd take the train.

I think they should rip out the flyover all together and just put a big ramp at either end. Whee!

Why dont they use clip ons like the HB?

cause its past its use by date...an it wasn't too highly rated for earthquakes even when it was new in 1966....

it seems to me that everytime there is traffic congestion the only solution put on the table is "Add an extra lane". These dumbass' at Auckland Council just have no fucking idea!!!

It's Transit NZ.
And they'd have to bulldoze all of spaghetti junction and start again if they really wanted to fix it.
No other country in the world has on-ramps merging with the fast lane. Then to gild the lily, they build it on an uphill slope.
To ensure that people don't think it was accidental, they then have an off-ramp exiting from the fast lane too. Sheer genius.

Where have you seen a fast lane in spaghetti junction? Is that the one that moves at a jog,or is more like a power walk?
