Pink Ribbon ride Sunday 24th May 2015.

Well done ladies and any and everyone else who had a hand in making it happen.
Weather was bloody abysmal, No Really, it was, I reckon there would have twice as many bikes there if it had been even a little bit warmer and had less likely looking rain clouds skulking about in the sky.
Nevertheless, it turned out to be a bloody great day for a ride to support the ladies and the Breast Cancer folk.
Pam, a survivor, who stood up and spoke at the Papakura Autobahn, did a fantastic job of standing up in front of a coupla hundred hairy assed bikers and saying she wished us all well and thanked us from the bottom of her heart for coming out on such a miserable day to help support her and others just like her.
I know this ol biker had a misty eye or two for a moment there and I reckon I saw more than a few others experiencing the same dilemma, it's not raining, (Ha!) so wheres this water cummin from.
The ride was a beaut, cold, but essentially rain free.
The destination is one of South Auckland's BEST kept secrets, the Kaiaua Pub is a cracker and the proprietors deserve a very big thank you from a lot of very hungry bikers, none of whom went hungry and who I'm sure all experienced a culinary delight for lunch.
This Pub needs more bikers and their friends and families going there more often people, the back bar is a bikers haven, there are special plates for our side stands stacked on the outside stage so we can park our bikes in sight and out of sight if you know what I mean. The hospitality of the owners and their excellent staff has always been exceptional, so come on you lot, ride there, drive there, hell, swim there even, but go more often.
I don't know the figures but there were a good number of bikes, riders, pillions and support vehicles there for most of the day, so i can only hope that we did the girls proud!
Haven't and won't miss a ribbon ride for some time so I was glad to see so many hardy souls braving some bloody nasty weather and come riding for one of the most deserving groups of people this county has ever seen, our mums, our sisters, wives and girlfriends.
On you guys and girls for making this a bloody great day and for making a difference.

Well, this sukz!
I joined KB sometime back.
Then, a ride for something as important as Breast Cancer didn't get much attention. But you know what there were hundreds of bikers, riders and pillions. Word managed to get around!
These days a poor turnout affected by wind and rain didn't even get a mention.
This year as with many of the other years those who did show up, didn't make a song and dance about it. Like most of us they thought, we don't go, the girls get F..k all. So they went.
Whats wrong here in KB land, I know plenty who went, who are KB, I know that most of those I've just mentioned are proud of dong this sort of ride and look forward to doing them for the recipients, not so much their own enjoyment.
My question, are we so worried what others think that we don't register our attendance?
Are we so worried what other people might think about us being a soft touch that we don't even talk about having had a great ride with many and varied machines and riders that we are too afraid to mention it here on KB?
Have we all turned into self centered pussies to the extent that we don't encourage others to put this sort of ride together anymore???
If the answer is yes then KB'ers, you suck!
Come on people, those who went, aren't you proud of helping?
Didn't you enjoy riding with a bunch of other people you didn't know who you did know by the end of the day?
Was this a worthy event?
Didn't you enjoy the company? the food? the opportunity to mix with lots of people you never thought you would?
For fucks sake, Say something, let everyone else know what they missed out on.
Any charity ride is a good ride.
The opportunity to make a difference is not given to Joe public that often.
We're lucky, it happens for us far more often than most.
Talk about it people, remind those that didn't go what they missed, shame the fuckers into coming next year no Matter The Weather, cause tis is one of the best rides out there.

Don't give a rats bum what others think of me or what I do. My business is my business. KB does have a lot of whingeing moaners, trolls and mean spirited sphincters. Thankfully there are a few people worth conversing with.

I had a good time. Didn't particularly want to head out but cajoled into the spirit for a good cause by a mate. I like to think of myself as a kaupapa rider...if the kaupapa is worthy then i'll ride. Weathers not really an issue unless its no brainer dodgy, then self preservation and nouse wins out. Weather wasn't that bad it precluded riding...bit of wind, bit of rain but in patches.

Sometimes mixed feelings about unknown company on group rides and wary of conflicting riding styles, but each to their own and it is what you make it. Have to say, um more of a soloist and standoffish by nature; not into group rides but admittedly a good time was had. I actually found the ride flyer by accident a couple months ago then forgot til a mate reminded me the night before. Thought food was good and the watering hole and have always thought The Baywater a perfect haunt for bikers and motorcycling enthusiasts in general. I do wonder why their aren't more charity rides in the calendar. Vids good TNMC-shot for that. Hope the ladies raised a decent amount of proceeds.

Personally I only saw this ride advertised on Facebook so if you are not a Facehugger then you may not have got to find out.

I missed this ride because I was working (which is crap) but good on those that braved the weather. This is a great cause and well worth supporting

I know a few that missed this ride due to not knowing it was on, Not people I catch up with often but have touched base recently ..... They are on here but didn't see anything about it.

I wonder how many more would have gone if the organizers hit the forums as well? I usually try to put things on here in a new thread in the meetings and events along with the Fat Bikers Forum, this time I think I only put it on the Waikato Laxed out rides thread on here.

But this section doesn't seam to get many views as past things I have put up hardly raise a comment.

Contrary to popular belief KB is not the center of motorcycling in NZ. I saw it heaps on FB. They had a great turn out considering the weather.

Yes but if you cover all basses you should get a bigger audience, absolutely it should be on facebook but many choose not to be on there and if you cover all basses it must be better?

KB is a dying site due to poor moderation. Have seen it before on other sites.

To get the word out on rides I believe the only way these days is FB if you want to hit the masses. No you wont get everybody but such is the nature of advertising.

Even you get 65 from here to an event it's better than not right?

Active members have gradually lessened on here since the the inception of FB by about 1000, but I would hesitate to add that they are all on FB, they just don't post on here any longer.

It would be interesting to know how many active members still ride. And how many just come to vent frustration at not being allowed to ride anymore etc.

As ive said before, KB is no longer a place to get motorcycle talk or advise. I go to overseas sites for that which are strongly moderated. KB is now a Trademe forum with a motorcycle side.

I will concede that you are probably right in saying they might have got some extra if the event was posted on KB.

Me, a mere male, took the time to sew! Yes I said Sew, the cloth badge for this ride onto my (finally found a use for it, Hi Viz Vest) shitty old bright yellow vesty thingy.
Along with a number of other important, to me at least, badges that I want others to see ,when I do ride.
Spokes, you are right, a lot of people fail to show up here like they used to.
But "poor moderation" isn't the problem, the problem is no fucker gives a damn anymore, not one iota.
As Mods the hardest thing in the world is, looking at a post and saying, what are they going to think? should I get in first and get rid of it?, or do I let it out and see what the others make of it.
We're all supposed to be adults here, censure-ship isn't what is expected here, what is expected, is that us Mods try to moderate without destroying what has been said, you guys make the rules work , or not, not us.
