View Full Version : A call for Admin to expand pd

As the title suggest's, can I suggest that any *obvious* Rant & Rave threads be included into PD sub forum? This site has lost it's value over the past few years and the amount of motorcycle related threads, seems to have been overawed by a copious amount of inane threads on non-motorcycle related threads.

The Activity Stream is 70% bollocks 100% of the time.

I would like to hear the Admins/Mods view on this suggestion.

*That add no value what so ever to the site.

Then what would be in the Rant and Rave forum?

Perhaps if you deem Rant and Rave to be pointless drivel you should just not click on them

PD isn't even pink anymore ffs.

It could be put directly beneath Points Drivel Posts as a Sticky?

Firstly, you should have added a poll.

Secondly, nah, there is still things not bike related which are worth yarning about; fucking heaps which aren't too, but no reason to throw them all down there. Just the ones that are pointless, possibly determined by age/post count/adherence to the original topic.

Of course it all much of a muchness unless spank bring the fairys back anyway...

Some years ago, there was quite a bit of objectionable stuff being posted on the site, it was decided to form a sub forum (LOA) where you had to subscribe to view. Whilst a large percentage of R&R threads are not objectionable, the subject matter being discussed belies the pure essence of what this site should be about. All I am suggesting is that, there should be section away from the Activity Stream for, out and out non bike threads.

I struggle if the conversation is not "enhanced" by the presence of beer, or some equally intoxicating libation...

Else I stay home and agree with mrs while posting on KB on the eve of a long weekend...

Making a suggestion is far from whining, what I said was that this site has lost it's value, and that is a direct result of the content of what is being chewed over in most R & R threads that flood the Activity Stream... daily.

I actually think the Moderation on this site is pretty good - and I am a veteran of multiple forums. The Mods here go with the light touch approach which IMO is the best Mod stratergy (having been a Mod on other forums and seeing the various strategies - heavy handed, medium, light, non existent etc.)

TheDemonLord
5th June 2015, 13:31
I've seen Mods active in other threads - but I will re-state that in Off-Topic, a lighter mod touch is IMO best. There is always a balance to be maintained - not enough Mod action and Spam bots get through, users have unhealthy flame wars etc. but too much mod action results in accusations of Censorship, decrease in forum activity and generally makes a forum boring (IMO).

From most of the Flame Wars I have see on here - most of the regular users know each other and have a very 'up front' manner (Mashman, Myself, Bogan, Katman, Edbear, Cassina etc.) also it seems unlike most forums - there is a higher percentage of people who have met IRL/know a persons identity - which sometimes can make the flame wars a bit more personal than other forums - but generally I find that it is par for the course - occassionally there are a couple of times when I have thought that some Mod-ship could have been warranted, but this is rather rare.

As always, anyone is welcome to report a post they think has breached site rules. However, just because something is reported doesn't mean action is automatically taken. ie: "Because I didn't like it" isn't grounds for action (not pointed at anyone in particular).

Further, there is often stuff happening in the background which is dealt with quietly, and only those involved would be aware. Spammers for example are a daily action but the amount of spam seen by members is less than that.

Long story short, the mods here are fucking abysmal. I'd disagree with maha about the hows though, RnR is fine, it is letting that shit spill over into all over sections (especially the mech ones) that I think put people off.
