Hi Guys
I am looking to buy a new naked sportsbike, I have ridden The Yamaha MT09 and the GSR750 but the one I really like is the Kawasaki Z800( but as yet have not been able to ride one as no one has a demo).
So looking for some feeback if you have or have ridden the Z800 is it as good as they say or what would your choice be , I commute and ride alot about 200km a day so bear that in mind with your comments.
Cheers

Also looked at the Aprillia Shiver but worried about cost of spares service and fuel consumption on these 'exotic' type bikes. I have also read that the brutale has issues with ride by wire system even worse than the MT09. Beautiful machine though sounds awesome.

Prob correct. Mines got all sorts of odd issues and only gets 160km per tank. 800 is likely the same.

If you are genuinely looking you should look at the bike that all of those bikes are modelled on and competing against. Triumph Street Triple.
If you have $9500 - $10k I can get you an 09 Speed Triple with around 3000 k's on it (genuine) just serviced adn with fruit and farkles (Arrow pipe..) immaculate.
I would buy it myself if I could convince SWMBO

If you want reialble and good on gas with easy to get parts. 900 Hornet. Boring as butter but will never let you down.
Cheap to by as well.

I'm quite a fan of the Hornet, as is well documented round here.
But for half the money one can get a good condition 98 Bandit 12....which is twice the bike.

They got more boring as they got newer I found.
Mate bought a 98 brand new. Chucked a WP shock up it, played 2ith the forks, changed the bars, and was unbeatable on any local road you chose.

I have heard the first gen are a giggle. But we got this for 2up which it is brilliant at.
Mind you Its now got a Busa shock and I re-valved the fork with new springs. Plus a rejet with opened up airbox. Goes very well for 2k.

About it,nice post D.Mate of mine recently bought one in real nice nic and has some plans, what did your mate do with the forks and how did his fiddling work out?Hes got this thing about binning whats on it which may have something to do with me the TL and GSXR front end but he is fucking slow so am trying to politely dissuade him and work with what hes got.

If they are the same as the second gen they are a piece of piss to re-valve. But I have a feeling they are a orifice damped fork. Tons of info on mods on the Maximum Suzuki site.

Do not have personal experience with the 800, but reviews rate it very highly and a huge improvement over the 750. At $11 grand they are great value IMHO. Heavy apparently. Checked one out last week. Nice, if a bit cheap in places.

Can't remember if they were cartridge forks or not. $500 will make damper rods better with emulators, or a good service on cartridges either way.
Stiffer springs is the big improvement.
If he's not a flash rider, put fresh oil in them and tell him it cost a fortune. The mentality that it's better is a bigger deal than anything short of a Gixxer front end.

Horny 900 was a good suggestion. NOT boring as suggested but I am bias - pipe em and it releases a few seat of pants ponies and vastly increases the grin factor (cheap pipes are available on the net).
Front suspenders respond extremely well to a set of decent fork springs suiting the rider (I got Ohlins from Mr Taylor) - cheap investment with large returns.
Rear shock is a bit budget - definitely get the 04 on as it is better than the first release - more adjustable. Fair few $ to upgrade the rear (I have and it made a huge improvement but I've owned mine since 07 so a good return).
Engine is a good grunter and spins up nicely at the top end when hauling with a kick at 6k (pipes improve this). Honda reliability. Service yourself (let dealer do valve adjustment every 24k).
A great base for personalizing and modifying.

I loved mine, but they're a far cry from a Bandit 12 for hooliganism.
Pipe extracts very few ponies, but opens the mid range up a bit and makes 'em more useable.
Great bikes, very good for wheelies and other shinanigans.

Just a look. I ride a yamaha FZ1. I thought the Kawasaki looked more compact and easier to chuck about.
