hello, I am new to these forums. This is probably a stupid question, but i brought my gear over from the U.K.
Is my helmet legal here? it has British standards sticker on it (shark s900 helmet). Only reason i am asking is i see a video on youtube a while back where in Oz people got fines for imported helmets.

Have a read here and see if it has the same sticker:

Thanks for your reply. I can't see one of the markings on the helmet. I would send a picture of the marking on my helmet but I don't know how to upload a photo

From a quick Google search, there appear to be/have been a few NZ retailers selling the S900 so I would assume that your helmet is no different and meets the criteria too.

Also check inside the helmet on the padding and/or straps as there are often markings there too.

The cops here are much less nazi than the ones in oz.

If you're wearing a helmet that's less than 10 years old you're ahead of a reasonable percentage of the nz motorcycling population. I don't think I've ever heard of anyone who's been stopped by the police here having their helmet checked.

No one every checks helmets in NZ.

Weird really - would be easy to do with your WOF.

Shhhhhhh

I am aware of people that have received infringements for helmet with no standards marking, but it's only ever been those German army looking helmets favoured by wannabe gangsters in an effort to make them look hard.

I suppose so. Then again, you would have to be an idiot to ride with a helmet you don't feel well protected or comfortable in.

I must have spent to long in the bike industry as I have met many of your "idiots" who are quite happy to wear a 30 year old completely stuffed helmet (liner falling out of it & so loose that you can spin it round like a motorcycle version of the exorcist) and can't see any reason why they should replace it. They also get very upset when they can't buy a replacement visor for there 30 year old helmet even when with some of them the company that made them closed down 25 plus years ago.

The exact reason I bought my last new helmet, visor was so crap I couldn't see a damn thing looking into the sun, wasn't hugely surprised that I couldn't get a replacement and probably well overdue anyway.

You can wear a UK helmet in NZ, you just have to wear it upside down.
