hello, first time i have been out after purchasing this bike. when riding, the bike doesn't go past 7000-8000 revs and just kind of cuts out, then slight drop in speed but it will not go any faster. the bikes runs fine when under 7000.
could it be the battery? The guy i brought it off didn't use it all that much and he put WoF on, they mechanic mentioned the battery?
any ideas?

Did you not test ride it and wizz the bastard up the top end?
Battery? don't see why it would stop it revving at higher rpms. I presume it starts OK - sad starting is usually the first sign of a sick battery.
Checked the air box - maybe a family of mice have set up in there if the previous owner did not use it.

Loose wire? Does it cut out at the same RPM regardless of gear? Or at what speed?
Low battery charge wouldn't effect a bike at high RPM, it produces more power than it needs to run.
Fuel pump, ECU, wrong spark plugs or loose wire is my thoughts. Sounds electrical.

Tank filler cap vent may be blocked. Gives the same symptoms - you can always crack it open slightly and go for a spin - if it revs freely with the cap slightly open then it is just a blocked vent. NOTE - don't test this on a full tank (you;ll end up with a groin full of fuel, and I recommend cracking the filler open and popping a bit of duck tap over the front so it can not flip fully open when you are riding.
Costs nothing to test this.

not a clue what it is. might take it to casbolts honda next week. it seems to all run fine. i only hit 8000 revs in gears 3-6. Bike carried on running fine it just hits them revs and won't go any higher just slows down a little. Also, when i first took the petrol cap off to put fuel in it like exploded a little, like there was load of pressure in the tank?

I'd just fit a clean air filter .. :shifty:
Get the cut out valve checked, it's a common fault with that model CBR.

i have no mechanical skills by the way. Could this be an expensive fix??

...no your Honda does not have a restrictor that makes it stop revving past idle...am I gay?...fucking oath man...do you want to bring it round to my shed to check it out...

My GSXR recently had similar symptoms above 5500RPM. Turned out that the exhaust valve servo thing (SET valve in Suzuki speak) wasn't opening fully. The plug had come loose.
Otherwise, fuel tank breather?

Read my earlier post - fuel cap breather. Should not explode in any manner when you open the cap. Unless the bike is on fire of course - then it should go bang.
A blocked fuel tank breather stops the engines ability to suck fuel at the rate required at higher revs - it will starve the engine so it will not rev. In order for the fuel to be drawn out quickly it needs air to be drawn into the tank at the same rate. Through the breather.

Bike is broken. Will give you $50 plus a box and a lift home

Modern day fuel injection systems are quiet complex and a few Engine Management Units have built in safeguards which can limit or restrict a engine in a the event of a sensor failure. Can often be described as a "Limp Mode" which deliberately makes the bikes fueling mixture rich and could possibly modify the maximum RPM.
Long shot, but if clearing the breather doesn't work then have the Narrowband o2 sensor checked (if one is fitted). Get a elminator for it.

Breathers were blocked, also was a kink in fuel pump. So all good and fixed now for 1.5 hours labour :)
