View Full Version : Parking fine

Anyone had similiar?
Parked outside a mall in Auckland near the entrance recently, and to be fair I parked on the footpath, but it was out of the way of foot traffic. I figured it was either park there, or park in a carpark, which imo is a little selfish taking up a full carpark unnessesarily.
I emerge 30 minutes later to a $50 parking fine.

Fucking ridiculous. I've sucked it up and paid for it, but from now on I'm claiming a car park, so next time you drive to the mall and go round and round trying to find a carpark, only to see people wasting them with bikes, thank parking enforcement services.

Depends which mall. Westfield are normally pretty good except when you park near an unoccupied bike park.

Stupid phone / Tapatalk, apologies in advance.

Yeah just take a whole park. Fuck em. You can't win with officious cunts who are thick as planks and can't comprehend circumstances beyond their 'rule' book.

Yeah ... I use car parks all the time ... leave the bike in gear so drivers who haven't got a clue can't move it ...

Have people moved your bike before? That's a bit cheeky.

If everyone on a bike took a car park all the time maybe (done it bold red so it looks sluttier (to imply looseness)) they'd see sense and change the rules.

What kind of PC shit is that... Only time I avoid taking a car space if is there is a designated bike park in a safe place.
A bike using a car space is no different to single occupant car using one.

Or they'd make a no bikes in car parks rule and start ticketing you for not using the bike park that was 1km away outside in the pissing rain? Unfortunately you'll never stop the "little man, lots of power" type that love these jobs.

Are Westfields not private property? Do council wardens patrol them as I've never has a problem myself??

You could have tried humour first in a grovelling letter. I got pinged in Rotorua years ago so wrote a letter to them and got it waived - see attached. Nothing to lose by trying next time! :innocent:

Someone left a message on my bike once too, which said 'Parking fine'.

I thought, what a nice compliment.

Look on the bright side... you could get to the parks.

Went to Sylvia Park for pretty much the first time (visiting Torpedo7). Whole sections of the carpark were height restricted to 2.2m so my van couldn't fit. Cue several sections of reversing because I couldn't turn around either.

Do you think I could lodge a case for height discrimination?

Fantastic grovelling Blackbird, I am humbled.

I wrote a letter to the CBD following a similiar fine last year for parking on the footpath (technically, although it was parked where noone would walk) more to the effect I parked there out of courtesy when free car parking was available, and I would take car parks in future, and they told me to sod off.

It blows my mind that they take issue with bikers parking out of the way causing less inconvenience to everyone.

If there was no Motorbike parking availible - you could always try the line of 'I would have parked in a designated motorcycle parking space, but since there weren't any provided, rather than take up a car park, I parked elsewhere'

it may work, it may not - but Like Blackbirds' fantastic peice of literature, its worth a shot.

It's not the officious officials that are of concern... of greater concern are the drivers who deliberately knock a bike over and then drive off, if you're lucky. Or knock it over and give it a push as well...

Bullshit. Don't sell us motorcyclists short. We have every right to use a car sized space. The size of the vehicle is unimportant (as long as it fits).

Too right. If a motorbike in a car park annoys you, then so should every car in the car park that came with only one person.

The chance of your shit getting run over if you park it in a single car park increases exponentially. Happened to me 8 months ago, never parking in a single car park again.
Cunts pull in to fast and are most likely so blind they wont see a 1300cc bike in it. Doesn't matter how far back you park, they will still find a way to knock it over. In Auckland the "useless gay cunt" factor is over 9000 times higher than the rest of the country, Westfield malls are club house and hang around spot for these types of people. I tend to stay well clear.

From experience parking tickets issued on the shore are the hardest to bargain your way out of. Next one I get im going to freeze a peice of my own shit and courier bag it to the council, must have paid them over 1k in the last 8 years. I once moved a dereged car out onto the street, was a parts car, needed to move it so I could get my trailer out. Went inside for ten mins and came out to a 400 buck ticket for no wof or reg. Wrote in and got laughed at, cunts can get fucked next time

I can count on one hand all the parking fines I have ever had.
1 on a car for no reg while I was paying my reg. Not waved, fair enough. The rules were pretty clear.

1 exceeded time limit.
Waitakere CC would not accept that I could not in fact travel at the speed of sound. After a few minutes arguing and showing receipts I just paid the $8 because it wasn't my car.

Unless one has slipped my mind: Tickets on a bike 0.

hasn't happened to me - but I watched a car driver try to move a Ducati out of a car park so he could use it .. the bike was in gear and the driver couldn't shift it ..

Yeah .. seen that happen too ... watched a driver push over a bike, which promptly fell on his car  causing serious panel damage to the car as the left bar banged through the panel ...

shit, I dont see why you cant take up a park with a mobility scooter or a bmx, if you are having to pay for the us of the park, the vehicle type really shouldnt matter

Yes.
At gas stations to get to a pump.
At pak n save NP I came back to my bike to find my bike in the main aisle half in the trolley return. In a nice arc from where I left it.
At pak n save NP I came back to find bike rolled forward to the gaps between the rows and someone in my spot. No way out until someone moved their car, so I had the car towed.
At st Luke's someone moved my scooter to a space beside a pillar so they could have my spot.
In Devon st New Plymouth I was parked sharing a space with 3 other bikes. Came back the others gone and my bike pushed on its side on the footpath.

Only one of those is in the last 20 years. Should be easy to spot.

That's why I always leave my bikes in gear when I park ... chances are only another rider would figure it out - most car drivers don't have a hope ..

Touch wood I haven't had anyone touch any of my jalopies. Might be worried something will fall off if they do. Don't know what I'd do though. Probably something really stupid.

The last time I caught someone I was at Caltex in Te Atatu.
I came out and some dude was walking my bike away, obviously to get his Holden (not sure if clubman or SS but had leather seats, spoiler kit etc.) so I openened his door slid his seat back and made ready to get in...
Should have seen his face.

It helps being a 6 inches to a foot taller than most when this occurs.

My wife has a mobility parking thingy (she has heaps of ironmonger in her joints), I'm really tempted, next time she's pillion, to park in town with the permit displayed. Only I'd be worried someone would nick it.

I have seen quite a few things before, in many parts of the country and around the globe, however that is possibly right up there.

How could you?

Number one rule regarding motorbikes in my book is never, ever touch/move someone else's bike.
Except of course moving someones bike if it was at risk of being painted or hit by construction equipment.

It infuriates me no end that people touch and damage other people's property like that.

If I caught someone moving my bike, I'd jump into their car and drive it onto the footpath.
Or just put my helmet on and headbutt them.

I came out of the local supermarket just after I'd bought my new bike, and found some "damned native" sitting on it talking to some of his mates.

I read him the riot act and told him if where I come from people get their hands cut off for touching other people's bikes. Don't know if he fully understood what I said; (English is not widely spoken here,) but he shifted pretty quickly.
