While the Police have made much fanfare of their speed campaigns and drink driving blitzes the real reason for NZ's lowering road toll has been uncovered by researchers.
NZ's population has bloomed by a massive one million migrants during the last 20 years and most of these are from countries with tougher licensing regimes and are often from higher educated backgrounds. While some people might argue they are taking jobs, they are also taking up spaces on the roads and replacing poorly trained bad habit ridden kiwi drivers. Many of these drivers also prefer lower powered more economical and slower cars.
PM John Keys says the govt is actively looking at ways to bring more foreigners in and discourage kiwis from driving. He says they are even considering switching NZ to lefthand drive to make the migrants feel more at home on our roads.
Asked about how kiwis will cope he says they wont be able to afford to drive on our roads anyway soon and under the trans pacific partnership many will emigrate to China, Mexico or Papua New Guinea for higher wages.

I think you'll find it is ...
As I understand ... the NZ (total) population stands at a bit over six million ... the licensed driving population would be made up by a large part ... of overseas born motorists.
But as (official) NZ residents ... they do not feature in an accident report on the telly as overseas TOURIST drivers.
As always ... truth can be stranger than fiction ... if it wasn't so laughable ... it would be funny.

A bit of satire, pisstake, baiting and pondering all rolled into one....
Think about it though, many of the competitive impatient type of people have bailed out to Aussie for jobs and many of our brightest have spent longer periods in UK and Europe and probably returned home with better road manners too...

Evidence of association is never evidence for causation. Plus - it wasn't posted on April 1st. Furthermore... "most of these are from countries with tougher licensing regimes and are often from higher educated backgrounds". Joking you are...
